The Air Group went ashore and conducted rigorous training at the new Cubi Point Air Station, while many of the shipfs company debarked with the Marine Detachment for landing party exercises. No incentive was needed for wanting to overcome the effects of the relentless sun, and the cool mountain resort of Baguio was provided for this purpose. Driftwood Beach was the setting for a score of Shipls Parties, along with many baseball games, including a hilarious imitation of one between the Engineers and the Gunnery Department. The splendid relations between the Philippines ,and the Yorktown were examplified by ' the mutually satisfying tours of the ship in which the eager Philippine Military Academy cadets participated. The outstanding record of the Yorktown while here earned the officers and men a commendatory Well Donel' from the Commander of the Navel Base, Subic Bay. , 1' my l l l vt i X Q
