Our Commanding Officer On September 14, 1956. Captain Edward E. Colestock became the tenth Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. Yorktown. Captain Colestock graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1930, the Air War College in 1950, and the National War College in 1954. After winning his wings at Pensacola in 1932, he joined VF-6B, the famous Kit-Kat squadron. Since that date his stations of duty have included Pearl Harbor with VP-4B, the U.S.S Lexington, N.A.S. Kaneohe Bay as Operations Officer, the U.S.S. Pybus as Air Ofhcer, and the U.S.S. Midway as Executive Officer. In January 1946, he was placed in charge of the Carrier Desk of the Ships Characteristics Board. In 1947, he became Chief of the Offensive Air Branch of Air Intelligence. Prior to taking command of the LADY, Captain Colestock commanded the U.S.S. Pine Island, and then served as Chief of the Navy Section of the U.S. Military Mission to Brazil. The Skipper's home is on the bridge while the ship 1S at sea. A Marine sentry salutes Captain Colestock as he is about to enter his car Captain and Mrs. Colestock viewed the ship from the bridge during the Wives' Day Cruise
