awaii, Hawaii in its strategic position served the Yorktown as a gateway to the Far East, and its climate and beaches were an excellent introduction to the many fine ports we were to visit. All the tropical elements that give Pearl Harbor the good liberty reputation it has, prevailed once again and the Yorktowners reaffirmed their liking for it. Our second visit in August was characterized by a feeling of impatience, for we were then bound for the States. However, our first visit in March served as a pause for adjustments to the tasks that were awaiting us on our cruise, and the resort facilities of this vacationland proved an 'excellent tonic. Both tangible and intangible evidence of historic December, 7, 1941, were about us in Pearl Harbor as we departed, serving as forceful reminders of the determination and courage that is expected of us, and which virtues the Fighting Lady frequently displayed.
