Flying the Navyis primary attack aircraft, the Skyraider, VA-195 formed the basic offensive unit around which the LADY built her striking power. Throughout the cruise, the pilots, planes, and crew of VA-195 demonstrated their abillity to handle the many types of missions assigned the squadron. Long hours of briefing and prepa- ration found the pilots on a variety of missions ranging from conventional weapons attack and close air support to long range special weapons strikes and supporting our splinter units on anti- submarine patrols. One day's operations in Hawaii saw the squadron expend 28,000 pounds of bombs, 120 rockets, 6400 rounds of ammunition, and 16 napalm bombs with a total destructive weight of 60 000 pounds Led by CommanderW A Rawls the squadron proved its worth in day and night all weather operations throughout the cruise COMMANDER WILLIAM A RAWLS USN SQUADRON COMMANDER , . . . , , . , . .
