Mrs. Buchanan adds new cards to the files. As the York High students entered through the double doors of the library, they encountered an unlimited scope of knowledge. The library enabled a student to escape from the dull corridors into a world of serenity. Whether you were writing a paper, selecting a book, or leafing through a magazine, the atmasphere in the library remained tranquil. Behind the pleasant surroundings, were the ever present librarians, who were always ready to lead a lost student back to the card catalogue or the shelf containing the desired reference. For enabling the students and the faculty to broaden their horizans, a small word of praise is in order for their hard work in the ‘‘quiet” job. Mrs. Simmons finds reading is not all work. 27
