Mrs. Buchanan adds new cards to the files. As the York High students entered through the double doors of the library, they encountered an unlimited scope of knowledge. The library enabled a student to escape from the dull corridors into a world of serenity. Whether you were writing a paper, selecting a book, or leafing through a magazine, the atmasphere in the library remained tranquil. Behind the pleasant surroundings, were the ever present librarians, who were always ready to lead a lost student back to the card catalogue or the shelf containing the desired reference. For enabling the students and the faculty to broaden their horizans, a small word of praise is in order for their hard work in the ‘‘quiet” job. Mrs. Simmons finds reading is not all work. 27

Language is the cornerstone of academics. Mrs. Wilcher’s Communication Skills Team worked to develop proper grammatical structure and improve reading skills. Frequently mastery of a foreign language helps us to master our own. Mr. Harrison ' s team built the foundations for new languages which broadened our appreciation of both the language and the cultures of other countries. Realm Of Numbers Is From the reaches of Consumer Math to Advanced Calculus, the student of numbers can find his field full of adventures and excitement through the exploration of his courses. The department encouraged independent study of math by an open competition in math that gives the student a full range of mathematics to enable him to discover his level and competence.
