Claaa Hiatonq On a September morning in 1953, twenty-two eager Freshmen crowded into the homeroom of Mr. Gwin. Although the subject of sneers and scorns of everyone, we thought we were pretty big to be in High School. Realizing the need of organization, we elected the following class officers: President, Marilyn Bowersoxp Vice President, Richard Warnerp Secretary, Judy Kokaip Treasurer, Dave Orwig. Our student coun- cil representative was Howard Cotterill . We captivated the saying, The ropes of today ring the bells of tomorrow as our motto. Maroon and white were chosen as class colors accompanied by our favorite flower, the white carnation. The Seniors still laughed at us small Sophs strutting through the halls. We strutted more than ever! Taking leadership was Dick Warner with gavel in hand. Following close on his heels was Jim Shaver. Carolyn Sue Jackson was always ready with pencil in hand. What little money we had accumulated by now was in the hands of Leo Missler. When the Student Council met, we could be sure Mary Jo Manbeck would be present to defend us. By our Junior year, we were a little more grown up-so we thought. In November I Mrs. Tetirick's patience was tested as we presented our.play, Come Out of the Closet. We were proud of the results of this and the other highlight of the year, the Junior-Senior Prom. We worked very hard to transform the gymnasium into a Spanish Garden. Not every dance has live burros as special guests! During this time, the board of experts carrying us through was headed by Richard Warner. Ready to take over in an emergency was Bob Weller. The pencil-pushing iob was given to Marilyn Bowersox. More money came in because of our candy sales, so we needed another person to hold the money bag. Leo Missler was assisted by Margie Benfer. The Stu- dent Council members were Judy Kokai and Dave Orwig. This year, 1958, we find ourselves twenty faithful ones ready to complete the year. We are Seniors. The slate of officers has again changed. The man-in-charge is Howard Cotterill, President. Acting as second in command is Dave Orwig. Writing the minutes is the duty of Mary Jo Manbeck. Guarding the dough is John Hunt. Our many requests are being conveyed to the Student Council by Marie Wise and Marilyn Bowersox. Before we march in our caps and gowns, we will experience an occasion to be told more than once to our grandchildren. The play, prom, and senior trip will be just a few of our activities which will come before May 27-our graduation night. We will be fortunate to say we are graduates of York School.
