Class Prophecy As I s1t 1n my rocker watchlng a travel f1lm on telev1s1on I remember the tr1p from coast to coast that I took back rn May of 1966 The fun began when I stopped my car to take a br1ef walk through a country woods As I came upon a clearmg I savn an art1st pa1nt1ng a lovely g1rl w1th a vnoodland brook as a background I started to move on by when the man turned and I recognrzed Verle Gardner The model was h1s beaut1ful vufe I-Ie was marr1ed soon after graduat1on from Y After a chat w1th Mable Iwas on my way As Ipulled onto the h1ghway I was startled by a huge b1ll board that read Barb s Baby Breakrng Busrness Inc Barb Freder1ck Presldent Barb had been my old classmate so I stopped for a short V1S1t Barbara was s1tt1ng 1n a rock1ng cha1r w1th a. baby on each knee She had started her buslness after she graduated from nurses tra1n1ng 1n Toledo Oh1o As I rode on the scenery grew more beautlful on one s1de of the road were beaut1ful woods On the other were lnsect pens? I declded to lnvestlgate th1s curlous srght so I drove 1nto a lane by a huge mans1on The s1gn on the door read Alan Mehle Bug Breeder To my amazement I learned that 1t was Old Mehle Bug h1mse1f I 1nqu1red and found that Alan had cap1tal1zed on h1S old n1ckname and was breed1ng the bugs to d1spose of old p1neapp1e cores Wlth 'No fuss no muss no cores' In a hurry to make up for lost trme I excelled the speed l1m1t to 65 mph I saw a flash heard the squeel of brakes and not1ced a f1gure on the road ahead As I came closer I recogmzed Dean Cfllbert on a motorcycle Dean told me he m11l1on The second 1S always easrer to make T1me passed as I moved along At noon I stopped for lunch at a small roads1de stand called W1mp's W1mp1es As I reached the w1ndow I saw the fam1lar face of Bob McConnell Then I understood the name for the place 'W1mp ' was dorng alr1ght for hlmself My hunger sat1sf1ed I cont1nued As I neared Washlngton D C I notlced campa1gn posters on every pole and post One poster part1cularly caught my eye It was pasted on the s1de of a cow grazmg near the road On lt was the p1cture of the great Senator MCKBHZIC At that t1me he was runnlng for a second term In Wash1ngton I tarrled long enough to watch an afternoon sess1on of Congress Who vas f1labuster1ng but Marc1a Meacham Woman Senator Supreme Th1s was also her second term Same old Marc1a always talkmg After I had v1s1ted the Cap1tol and was aga1n 1n the country I saw a huge sheep ranch The name of the barn struck a note 1n my m1nd Wh1te's Black Sheep I 1nvest1gated and found Jeanne Wh1te st1ll try1ng to pull the wool over everyone' eyes Jeanne told me that Just next door was the Busy Baker s headquarters She revealed that Glor1a settled down content to be her fam1ly's adv1sor She always was good w1th the bra1ns at York It was early even1ng as I stopped for d1nner at an exclus1ve restaurant I was welcomed by the lovely hostess Sandra Hartley Rathbun She was qu1te successful as a restauranteur us1ng the Home Ec learned at York Hrgh As I came out of the restaurant after a wonderful meal and a chat w1th Sandy I 'fl,Ot1CSd two pa1nters worklng on the exter1or of the bu1ld1ng It was Nelson G1ldenm1ester and Ed Weller' The boys were st1ll slopp1ng lt on th1ck and fast As I rock slowly I recall that I exther met or heard of all my classmates of 56 They were all very successful way back then Thanks to dear old York wonder what w11l happen and who I w11l see on my next tr1p Th1s page 1s sponsored by YAGER'S RADIO SHOP 104 N.
