High school is lived in a distorted perspective. With each new day, yesterday is discarded and tomorrow is ignored. All experiences-semester exams, study halls, first dates, basketball tourna- ments, detentions, college tests, and graduation- are expressed in the immortality of a few scat- tered moments. In these moments is to be found the true meaning of high school. All else fades into a blurred background of half-remembered illusions. Of the experiences of the four years dedi- cated to high school life, a great number are for- gotten. Hours of reading, busy work, extra-curri- cular activities, and departmental tests fade to- gether into a haze of ambiguity. Yet, each individual encounters certain situations that contrast sharply with this colorless maze. This may result from his own actions or from those of others, but they cause him to learn, to think, to care, and to re- member. These experiences comprise a true edu- cation.
