This puT The Dukes in a Tie wiTh Riverside-BrookTield Tor sixTh place in The WesT Suburban ConTerence sTandings. ln winning This game, The Dukes bfoke Their losing sTreak oT 20 games by crushing Downers Grove, I3 To 6. Downers was The WesT Suburban ConTerence champion in I949-50. As in The previous year, Coach Ferry had a small TurnouT. There were abouT 4l boys To selecT Trom Tor The game wiTh mighTy EvansTOn. ln preparing Tor This game, Coach lvlahood senT The line Through Their ,M Tough paces, and Coach KieTTer Took conTrol oT The elusive backs. The game ended in EvansTon's ' '53 Tavor, 53-O. The season came To a climax when The Dukes Taced La Grange. IT was a Thrilling y A game ThaT ended in a disasTer Tor our grid-iron heroes, 32-O. T ' The co-capTains Tor The I95O season were Bud Delvloss and Jack l-lercher. Delvloss, The X ' ' E Duke's dashing back, wenT across The goal line Time and Time again To receive Third place in 3 X scoring honors in The W.S.C. wiTh 54 poinTs. l-lercher wiTh his eleganT Toe kepT The Dukes ouT oT 0 Trouble during The season by making miraculous punTs. N - UQ DeMoss was also honored by being placed on The TirsT sTring All-WesT Suburban ConTerence 'V V ,Xa 0 Squad. Ed SchoenTeld, who worked hard aT The Tackle posT, received honorable menTion along . ie TX . wiTh Loren Krause, a skaT back, who in spiTe oT an ankle iniury recovered enough To play.
