L K 4 JOURNALISL AT YORK In former years seniors have put out the Sand Burr without previous experience in journalism. This year the class of l9h7 decided to publish a school paper in order to get experience in journalism before time to print the annual. Therefore, Y.C.H.S has had a school paper--'The Yorkster'--published once each term. The Junior class issued the February issue as we were busy working on the 'MT annual. Thus the class of 19 8 Uwill have some experience before beginning senior activities We have exchanged papers with several other schools Next fall we hops to send a representative to the annual convention for high school journalism. This convention is at the Universi ty of Illinois. ' This year we have attempted to make a new different annual. 'e have had some success. The annual is bound, has more picture ages, and more written pages. Our artists, Carroll Dimmlck and Verna Pickens, made our division sheets. The grade school also has 1t's basket ball picture in the 19147 Sand Burr. In other words, we have tried to make the l9h7 Sand Burr an expression of the spirit of Y.C.H.S. as well as of the originality and personality 'of the Class of 19147 . JUNIORBSENIOR PROM Th junior-senior banquet and prom was held in the high school gym. May 9, l9h7. The gymnasium was beautifully dec- orated in gay colors carrying out the Hawaiian theme. The faculty, board of directors and their wives were the honored guests of the evening. Each member of the junior and senior class was allowed to bring one guest to the banquet and two other couples to the prom. The banquet tables were beautifully decorated to carry out the theme of the evening and members of the freshmen home ec- onomics class acted as waitresses. lothers of the juniors help- ed in the preparation of the banquet and later jo1ned.the crowd watching the evening festivities. kiss Sylvia Dykstra, president of the Junior Class, ac- companied by her guest, led the Grand March followed by the officers of the junior and senior class in order of their'rank. Everyone proclaimed this to 'be the highlight of the evening, and rumors have been circulated that everyone had an enjoyable evening. ' 1' X ..,s. s, .
