In each of these, there are people who portray different roles. Every person has their own theatre. Each person can determine what their role will be. In every role, there is a part of the actor or actress, which is individual to that part. These individuals are responsible for making it possible for each actor or actress to work together to achieve the same goal. 2 PLAYBILL PLAYBILL 3 PECrCCMEC Everyone has a role that they portray, whether it be student, faculty, or adnninistrator. There are many roles that we are born into; such as sex, age, and nationality. There are also roles that we strive to achieve; such as being a student and the type of career you choose. At times the roles we perform complement each other; while at other times they seem to be in conflict. Each individual has to learn to work within their different roles to find a workable balance between each of their roles. PLAYBILL 5 $PECTAT€C Although the role of a spectator seems to be an easy one to fulfill, it Is still very important. Spectators give what, at times, is hardest to receive — encouragement and support. Even though spectators are associated mainly with sports, they also support groups and individuals. Spectators can give support to those groups that are developing. Spectators are the driving force that keeps us going and striving for the best that we can be. 6 PLAYBILL ATHLETE The athlete ' s role as related to a group is one of a shorter period of time. The athlete ' s influence on the game begins as each game begins. What occurs in past games does not affect the outcome of the future games. Although the influence on the individual games is short run, the training for the games is long term. Dedicated athletes spend many hours a week practicing their sports and staying in shape. The role of an athlete tends to be strenuous and very admirable. FI IEND A friend is the most important supporting actor or actress a person can have. With friends, people do what they feel like doing, when they feel like doing it. They know that there are a lot of ways of satisfying one another and that what is important are the feelings, not the ritual. Having friends can make life easier, but being a friend can make life more enjoyable. When a person has a true friend, they learn to appreciate other people but also to better understand themselves. 10 PLAYBILL PLAYBILL 11 12 PLAYBILL ■BE ycucsELr The most important and original role any person portrays is that of themselves. It is a unique role and one which is easy to portray, but very difficult to develop. For many people it takes years to finally become the type of person that they truly desire to be. No one can tell you what you should be like. It is up to each individual to decide what characteristics they think are admirable and develop these into their own personality. ocean pacifif wpsunwearCp I PLAYBILL 13 SENIORS . . . SEINICKS . . . As the Class of 1983 graduates from Y.C.P., they will be progressing from one type of role to a lifestyle that is more demanding. They will no longer be students. They will be nurses, recreation therapists, managers, accountants, artists, psychologists, teachers, or a number of other occupations. They will learn that they have new responsibilities, new tasks, and new skills to develop. They will not be able to blow off work as they could their classes. They will find that they cannot B.S. a business report, results of an experiment, or diagnosis as they could their assignments. Their bosses will be less likely to accept excuses. They will learn to accept the added responsibilities of being on the job. They will look for challenges and prosper from experience. The Horizon would like to wish the class of ' 83 the best of luck in their future endeavors. SENIORS 7 31 SENICI DICECTOCr itementary Edlcation; Student EducafTd l |l9rd, Ann . COUNCIL In the past, the Intrafraternal Council, IFC, has not done its job. In 1982 it came back, but in 1983 it came back even stronger and hopefully will continue to develop. The IFC works with the Administration and Student Senate to coordinate activities for the Greek Student Senate to coordinate activities for the Greek organizations on campus. Led by Bambi Lamplugh (President), John Schleicher (Vice-President), Connie Witmer (Secretary), Joe Pisciotta (Treasurer), the IFC raised money for Greek Week and developed rules to control rushes and pledging. This spring, the IFC held its annual Greek Week with the theme of Mardi Gras. The events included a drinking contest, road rally, empty keg toss, tug-a- war, and many others. There was a good time to be had by all Greek members. Hopefully, the IFC will continue to grow strong and continue to develop and guide the Greek organiza- tions on campus. Omega is ne of the oldest fraternal organizations on the York Col- !ge campus, and a member of the YGP Interfraternal ouncil. Omega is a state charter, non-profit organization and has been recognized locally for community service to the York area. In their ten year history. Omega has come up with various ways to raise money for charities, the most popular being their annual volleyball marathon. Up till now some of the charities benefited have been: The American Cancer Society, The Kidney Foundation, The Arthritis Foundation, Cerebral Palsy of York, and Multiple Sclerosis. The brothers of Omega Theta Chi are a close knit family, and have a close relationship with Alpha Theta Chi, who were originally little sisters. The fraternity rushes twice a year and they are usually memorable to everyone. Even though they are active in many ways, Omega does not allow their members ' grades to slide, and in the Fall of 1982 The Wenger (Omega) House had the highest grade point average out of all the sorority and fraternity houses on campus. The college can certainly be proud of the 1982 team and its accomplishments. The highlights of the season were the consistantly outstanding performances of their star runners. On the men ' s team, J. Ron Scifers and Mark Rizzuto were outstanding, but the quality level dropped drastically. It was not uncom- mon to get both first and second places and still lose a dual meet. On the women ' s team, Heather r lunro stood out individually; she established several new York College and course records. However depth of quality made the women ' s team much more successful, competitively. The 1982-83 volleyball season started out with great prospects for a good year. But the season was not without frustration. Having close matches early in the season, in- juries, eligibility problems and a tough travel schedule they got off to a bad start. It even became necessary to add new players and drop the junior varsity program. However, the team did the best they could, considering the cir- cumstances. The wrestling team completed another successful season with a 13-3 dual meet record. Even though this season ' s record of 13-3 was comparable to last year ' s record, this was a much better team. The reasons for this improvement were that six starters returned from last season ' s team which gave them an experienced and matured line up. The team took a lot of pride in the mean- ing of the team concept, considering wrestling is generally classified as an individual sport. The highlight of the season was the team ' s participation in the Carna- tion City Classic. York College dominated this tournament, which was hosted by Mount Union College. The 1982-83 season resulted in a disappointing 4-16 record. Two of the biggest reasons behind the poor showing were injuries and inexperience. They did, however, finish the season with three consecutive wins. The captains for the team were Tammy Bellefeuil, Dodie Forutz, and Cindy Bowman. With most of the team returning, we lool forward to an improved season next year. SPORTS 125 EASEEALL The basketball team ended their season with a record of 25-11. The team, though short on collegiate experience, did perform well. Unfortunately, the team suffered with many injuries this season.
