His first two years of undergraduate work were spent at Columbus: the last two years at Boldwin-Wollace in Berea, Ohio Dr Polk was a pre-med biology major, ond hod even opplied to medical school. Then two quarters before graduation, I looked around of what I wos doing . . thought I was missing something in life With oil of the sociol unrest of the sixties, he felt his sociology courses seemed ro offer solid theories and concepts, the sociology professors seemed to be relevant people ' Dr Polk graduated from Baldwin-Wallace in 1970 with a B,5. in biology, ond o decision to pursue his study of sociology. With the universol requirement of students — o need for money, he opprooched Kent Stote, speoking to the Choirmon of the sociology deportment The end result was an assistantship to rhe Assistont Director of culturol longuoges, and o return to studies. Graduation with an M.A. in 1972 brought him foce to foce with the initial question of what do you do after groduorion He began applying to various social agencies. Then he heard that York College of Pennsylvonio wos looking for o sociology professor Dr Polk hos filled rhat position since September of 1972. His octive intellectuol curiosiry — I love learning about things ' — keeps him a perpetual student. Since 1973 he has been working toward his doctorote ot Cotholic University, this olso hos become o reality. He enjoys academic research, and looks for ways ro ignite the interest of his students. By applying his knowledge outside of the classroom he is able to return with results that moke sociology real to his students. His academic reseorch deols wirh sociology of religion.
