it is not only an honor for us to be the first senior class of york college, but it is a greater honor to have the privilege of dedicating the 1971 horizon to our friend mr. alfred w illiams. we have chosen mr. williams because of his excellence as the director of financial aid and placement and for the deep admiration and respect we, as seniors, have for him. a native of wrightsville in york county, he graduated from wrightsville high school in 1925. for a time he taught at the druck valley school and then managed a local business for 20 years, he came to york junior college in 1959 as the business manager, in 1968 he assumed the position of director of financial-aid and in 1970 the title of placement officer was added, he has performed all of his responsibilities in a manner which has been a credit to himself and to the college. mr. Williams is an authority on early american history, in his spare time he works on a model train collec- tion and does his own gardening in the warm weather, he likes his coffee black, he smokes a bit too much, and we ' re told he swears when angry. he and his charming wife, helen, who must have been an inspiration to him, are planning to own and manage a motel upon his retirement, they have three children, all of whom have gone their separate ways, and several grandchildren for whom they often enjoy babysitting. when we recall our years at york college, we will fondly remember al williams as our friend, brother, and father, his sensitivity and maturity has given us great inspiration, mr. williams has charisma!! enough praise cannot be bestowed upon this wonderful man. so, it is with great admiration and respect that we make this dedication to mr. alfred 1. williams, the big man on campus in 1971.
