ROMRBAUGH, R. A. W. D. 2EIGLER, R. A. • • • THE TOWER york junior college york penna. 1960 To THE Class of 1960, the Present is funda- mentally important. We realize, however, that we are rapidly travelling into the immediate fu- ture. The future for us is graduation, another college degree, employment, or service to our country. The years to come have a different con- notation: greater esteem as a fully accredited junior college, and a challenging period of de- velopment on a new campus. Thus, to the Pres- ent we say farewell; to the Future we dedicate these TOWER TALES. For what is today but a vision, will tomorrow, be a reality. The new campus ... to it we impart the responsibiHty of future generations. As the present gives way to the future, the old must concede to the new. Freshmen— First in war Although the division between Present and Future is so minute, the Present is vividly in focus. r-C First journalism workshop First class on new campus: Philosophy 101 First annual Christmas Convocation First in conformity: green coats Administration Dr. Ray A. When the final payment was made in October, an energetic program was started including a campus lay-out, the devel- opment of building styles and a campaign to raise a million dollars. As the Tower goes to press, considerable progress has been made in all directions with ground breaking ceremonies being scheduled for early summer. It is the fond hope of the Trustees that the facilities on the new campus will be available for occu- pancy in September, 1961. Melvin H. The Student Senate is responsible for distributing the activities ' fees, for giving honorary awards, and for planning college social events. In the spring the governing body goes on a Retreat for the purpose of making tentative plans for the following year and for making changes in the student government con- stitution. The Orientation dance and the May Ball are two of the Student Senate ' s primary social functions. In addition, one of the main college events sponsored by the Senate this year was the college carnival held on the new campus in April. The purpose of the carnival was to raise money for the College Development Fund and to establish a new tradition for future gen- erations of York Junior College students. OFFICERS: A. Poet, B. M M 73 25 Smith 3 Dohm 1959-60 Record York Junior College, facing one of its toughest rebuilding jobs it ever had, opened its doors to freshman and sophomore basketball candidates October 15. Coach Herb Sauder ' s job was not an easy one since he had only one varsity member returning from last year ' s championship ball club, Larry Reindollar. By December 22, Herb had narrowed his choice of the starting five to seven. They included Larry Reindollar, Bob Smith, Dick Lee, Barry Keckler, Bob Dohm, Jimmy Moore and John Dickert. Smith and Reindollar were the only two who were six feet or over, and since the team was made up mostly of freshman lacking height and experience, the Big Green had to rely on desire and hustle. Reindollar and Smith were elected co-captains and the Flying Dutchmen celebrated their open- ing with a rousing 83 to 44 win over Hagerstown J.C. Dick Lee potted 22 while Smith, Dohm, and Reindollar all hit in double figures. The next foe was the strong Navy Plebes. The Plebes, with a superior height advantage ran rough-shod over the Green and White. With YJC getting off to a sluggish start, the Marauders from Millersville dished out an impressive 79 to 56 defeat on the Yorkers. Beginning the league schedule, Altoona pro- vided the first foe for YJC. Playing without co- captain Smith, York lost to its up-state rivals to the tune of 72 to 62. The Lebanon Valley Jayvees gave YJC its fourth loss and a strong Alumni quintet gave YJC its fifth consecutive loss as John Warner pumped in 36 for the winners. After five straight losses the Big Green whipped Her- shey J.C. in a league game played on the Yorker ' s floor. Sauder presented a well balanced offensive with four men in double figures. Against LVC, the Flying Dutchmen lacked good team play and dropped a 67 to 47 decision. In one of their more spirited games of the season, YJC turned back a good Stevens Trade School team on the home court. Dick Lee had 19 for YJC. In a league game against a weak Temple club the Big Green came out with a 75 to 61 win. Co-captain Smith had 20 points for the winners. At Gettysburg the Flying Dutchmen seemed to come apart at the seams late in the game and dropped a 75 to 67 loss to the little Bullets. Foul con ' ersions with less than a minute to plav brought about the downfall of YJC as the boys dropped a verv close decision to Ste ens Trade. In an exciting league game against Johnstown the Big Green came out with a 60 to 57 win. Smith, Dohm, and Lee led the attack. York ' s seventh win in a row came over a weak Hagerstown Club. Lee-and Keckler had 48 points between them. Returning home to meet a league opponent in Keystone J.C., the Sander club came out with a 79 to 48 decision. Buoyed by a chance to break even after a poor start, YJC hit the 500 mark with a 72 to 68 victory over the Gettysburg Freshmen, alwavs a favorite oppo- nent of York. Reindollar had 20 for the winners. Also on this night the 1946-47 state championship club of YJC and its coach Frank Brvant were given a special night by the alumni of the college. In the last phases of the season abetted by second semester player Myers, in a shooting spectacular, the Big Green eked out a victory over Hershey J.C. with Smith, Dohm, Lee, and Myers hitting double figures. Temple proved to be win number six in a row for the Sander club as the Big Green came out with a 89 to 48 win. Against a highly rated F M Freshmen club the Dutchmen played a great game as they came out on top with a 73 to 66 win. This was the seventh straight win for the locals as they closed out their home season with an 8 and 4 record. Against Keystone, the Dutchmeri lost 58 to 55. In a clos- ing season game played at Lancaster YJC dropped a 75 to 68 decision to the Millersville Jayvees. The Annual Penna. Junior College State Championship Tournament was held at LaPlume Penna. early in March. In the opening game, York was eliminated by Johnstown, the eventual winner. The following night York beat host Key- stone in the consolation game. YJC ' s Barry Keck- ler won a berth on the Tournament-All-Star Team. York ended its season with a 12-11 log and had the distinction of winning the division of the Junior College League. Co-captains Rein- dollar and Smith were selected as members of the eastern division all-star-team.
