For these inestimable benefits we are deeply grateful to our beloved pastors. In addition they have bestowed on us a friend- ship-strong, disinterested, and unchangeable, for through them we are admitted to the loving friendship of God. ' Sain U2 K U . .c Q. bfi RW CUR ESTEEMED FACULTY Strong and all-inclusive is the friendship tendered us by our devoted Sisters. The atmosphere that such relationship creates adds persuasive force to counsel, affectionate support in need, and a safe resort in time of loneliness or confusion. We are convinced that this friendship proceeds from their intimate love of God, that expresses itself in fraternal charity, and from the profound con- sciousness of their human frailty, which remains in them beneath the courage of their virtue. , We likewise cherish the cordial friendship extended to us by our thoughtfully-kind lay faculty and' maintenance members, who have by example, intercourse, and friendly suggestion, added much to the sweetness of life. inpatient ew PREPARING TO CAST their vote in the primaries are: Sisters Melchior, Esperance, Rose Immaculee, and Florinda. Before the Green and Gold could muster their defense to stop the potent Cardinal attack, the charges of Coach Steve Hydock jumped into a four touchdown lead. The third period featured a gruelling defensive battle with neither team scoring, although the Irish stopped a Reading drive on their one yard line. York Catholic broke into the scoring column in the fourth period after a 69-yard touch- down march culminated by Barnhart's touchdown and Fisher's extra point. E xtr oint for Irish on an end around Others in the play FISHER SCOR S ei a p . are Fallert C199 Heininger CSU, Whart 4303, Kauffman 4413, and Hubert 1341. An improved Irish team took the field against a powerful Middletown eleven. The Blue Raiders controlled the ball during much of the first half. The end of the first half saw Middletown holding a commanding 19 point lead. In the second half the Irish scored once and held the Raiders to one touchdown. Runs by Borsa and Barnhart and a pass by Kauffman highlighted the Irish drive. Sep- tember 25 saw Harrisburglv championship team invade York. York Catholic opened the scoring with a surprising early minute touchdown scored by Barnhart. I-Ioerner's placement gave the Irish HOERNER BOOTS perfect placement through a muddle of Crusaders with Barnhart holding after Irish score sur- prising early-minute touchdown. a lead which they held until the second period. Har- risburg then mounted a strong offensive attack which netted them 19 points by halftime. The Crusaders' offense continued to click in the second half for 19 more points to make the final score 38-7. York Catholic lost its fourth game of the season after a hard battle with Littlestown. After a close first half, it appeared as though the injury-riddled Irish might pull an upset. However, the Thunderbolts erupted for two quick tallies at the start of the fourth period which proved to be too much for York Catholic. xi - - ,., .. --f -J -135 '03 .-,fr my . fi 'fe I Q F Qs Above: BARNHART SLASHES off yardage while being chased by two Littlestozwz defenders with jim Smith lending assistance. The Fighting Irish registered their first win of the season at the expense of the surprisingly strong Kenard-Dale Rams. Paul Borsa ran for York Catholids two scores, one in the second and one in the fourth period. The points after touchdown were scored by Don Shubert, The Irish held Ken- nard-Dalels attack, and gave up negligible yardage. When York Catholic met its next league op- ponent, Dclone, it found the Squires of Coach Alex Bell vastly improved 'over former years. With Car- roll Funk and Burnell Bevenour sparking a potent Delone aerial attack, and the opposition's defenses breaking up all attempts of the injury-riddled Irish to mount an offense, Delone was able to control the ball game and cross York's goal seven times. On Saturday, October 22, the Irish played an intra-city game with West York. Both teams put up strong defenses. However, the Bulldog fullback John Bow- man, sparked his team on three scoring drives to give West York the margin of victory. On October 28, Gene Kruis's Crusaders beat the Irish by an im- pressive 40-O score. Lancaster was a strong Catholic League contender this year and snowed a strong, young team. The Crusaders scored in every period. It seemed as though the Irish couldnt buy a touch- down. York Catholic was befuddled by the wizardry of Ben Charles who made the all-conference team. November 4, the Irish invaded the Nighthawks' lair. Although the score was Z7-O, Hanover's favor, it could be termed a minor upset insomuch as Hanover was supposed to run up a tremendous score. At half time the score read 20-O. During the second half the alert Irish effectively stopped the Hanover of- fense and at times developed a potent offense of their ovwgn. Although this year's wins were low, the spirit was high. We may not win but they'll know they've been in a battle. -Coach Sinkovitz. Not meeting the expected resistance from Ilelone on january 8, the Irish had an easy win, 67-51. lilated by Stewarts soaring points, York hailed this victory as a good omen for their approaching encounter with Lan- caster Catholic. In this tilt, however, the Crusaders caught York on an off day, and walked off with a 55-51 victory in their grasp. February 17 spelled disaster for the lrish on meeting Harrisburg's champion outfit at Tracy Hall. York failed to challenge the Capitol boys seriously, and wound up on the short side of a 69-45 score. This was a record score for any Y.C. team including even State Champs in 52. With a score of 58 to 42 York evened the score against Lancaster. The always-good Harrisburg team was next on the list. Favored to win, it did so only after York gave them a run for their lives, 55-46. St. Ed's '4SpeedboysM also won over York, making a playoff inevitable. A two-game losing streak was added to by Delone. This was a heart- breaker because of a closing- second desperation shot. After a see-saw battle, Delone captured the win 63-61. A Q i-gQ1 235.
