KEALY Principal 5 0 0 We, the Members of the Graduating Class of 1949, dedicate this our issue of Rosa Mysticav to the memory of our Principal, The Reverend Joseph P. Kealy. Though but a short time under Father Kealy's direction, we shall each take with us the memory of his untiring zeal in the interests of the students of York Catholic High School. Our gratitude will be proved best by emulating the splendid example of devotedness to duty which Father Kealy has set for us, and by living up to the attainment of the high ideals which he has always placed before us. 3 WZ xl Q Tlygcglouc, E REV. Season Summary The 1948 football season, though not so successful as the previous season, was a season long to be remembered. More than once the stalwarts of York Catholic came from behind to down their opponents in the last frame of the game. This feat called not only for stamina but also a strong will to win, combined with a good background received from Coaches John Clark and Bob Beck. The results of the season are as follows: York Catholic 34-Red Lion 7 The Traditional Rival of the opening game for the Dukes, Red Lion, came to York with the firm purpose of mak- ing up for last year's defeat, their only one of the sea- son. But determination was not sufficient as the Green and Gold Gridders smothered the lines 34 to 7. Smith and Hoffman each scored once, while Munchel scored three touchdowns to lead the attack. York Catholic 18-Mt. Caramel 6 The second game found the boys from Mt. Carmel visit- ing York also anxious to avenge last year's defeat. They scored first, but were unable to retain their lead, and went under to the tune of 18 to 6. Harrisburg 14-York Catholic 12 York's first away game proved to be fatal to the un- conquered Dukes. A great game ensued with excitement and tensions the whole way through with Harrisburg emerging the victor 14 to 12. York Catholic 19-St. Francis 6 Getting back on the victory train was easy against a faltering St. Francis squad, who opened up with a quick touchdown, and then seemed to relax. They settled down to win 19 to 6. St. Matthew 38-York Catholic 7 A trip to Conshohocken was all that was needed to get the Dukes off that victory train again. The Conshohocken lads were just too big to cope with-result St. Matthews 38, York Catholic 7. York Catholic 33-West York 12 The annual battle against our borough rivals proved to be a thriller the first half but after that, the Blue and White seemed content to let the Dukes push them all over the lot to score again 33 to 12. York Catholic 12-Lancaster Catholic 6 A big Lancaster Catholic squad came to York with the sure thought of victory, however, their thoughts were upset by a small but powerful Green and Gold aggregation. Bon BECK Assistant Coach Boa ALLEN J. V. Coach Season Middletown 25-York Catholic 0 An undefeated Middletown eleven came to York with what appeared to be a small team. Although we shall admit they were small in size, they were by no means small in experience. They edged the Gold and Green 25 to 0. JOHN CLARK Head Coach JOHN KRUTULIS FRED Nom. Assistant Coach J. V Coach Summary Delone 55-York Catholic 0 An injury-riddled York Catholic squad took to the field against a strong Delone aggregation-result, the worst slaughter of the season. The Dukes fought hard, but were unable to stop the bigger lads. Final score again, Delone 55-York Catholic 0. 71 MM . wk as 'H 4 -: mi ,... , .:.,:E : N, Wa 9 4 5285? ,Q 5639 Q .. ....,.
