The National Honor Society of Secondary Schools was founded by the National Association of Secondary School Principals in 1921. Now there are over five thousand local chapters of the National Honor Society throughout the United States. The emblem of this society is the keystone and the flaming torch, bearing the letters C, S, L, and S, which stand for Character, Scholarship, Leadership, and Service. The torch represents the searching light of truth. Members of the Junior or Senior class, who have spent at least one semester at a parti- cular high school and who have a scholarship average of 857: or its equivalent, are eligible to become members of the National Honor Society if they meet the qualities of Character, Scholar- ship, Leadership, and Service. We'll soon be wearing size senior shoes, but we're not afraid of their not fitting, because during our climb to the top we've held up our end of the bargain of good class representation. Many wonderful and outstanding honors have been bestowed upon members of our class. We would like to give recognition to our All-State Band members, Robbie Walters and Carolyn Fawcett, the only two to make state from Yoakum this year. We are also proud of our All-Regional Band members, Charles Hickox and Al Hoerig, and our All-District Band me mbe r s, Dahlis Boothe, Edward Malinak, Adreinne Oldham, Bobby Harbers, Lyn Ploeger, and Anne Oldham. Our class represents a large part of the High School Band, seventeen members in all, with many holding first chairs. Our class is represented in almost every extra-curricular activity. .lim Frank Loos has held the office of President of the F.F.A. for two years, Lester Rice, Vice President of the F.F.A., did a fine job showing his Angus calf at the Houston Fat Stock Show. Charlotte Welhausen is a very outstanding member of the Debate Club. We are proud of La Ree Manning, our only speller, and Rosemary Goode who is As- sociate Editor of the school paper and a ready writer. Our twenty-five members of the National Honor Society are Joe Herman, Helen Rice, Anne Oldham, Ray Kelley, .Toyce Richter, Joseph Frazer, Rosemary Goode, George Faldik,Dah1is Boothe, Caro- lyn Fawcett, Walter Huehlefeld, La Joyce Z. w e r sc hke , Helen Winter, Elda Mae Schneider, Al Hoerig, Jim Frank Loos, Charlotte Welhausen, Patsy Knox, Freddie Boening, Bobby Harbers, I. O. Hermes, Helen Gibson, Robbie Walters, Lyn Ploeger, and Charles Hickox. We also have representatives in the one-act play, extempora- neous speech, Pep Squad, on the Annual Staff, Bow-Wow Staff, and Office Staff. Of the eleven Juniors on the football squad, Marion Coker, Charles Hickox, Al Hoerig, Ray Kelley, Charles Manning, and Wayne Turk were lettermen. We're not being boastful, but who could help being proud of a mighty successful year. l? , l lvfgppu New S S m Y if :UNL srsugruQMMi5 have f My A9 ' . -I, ' 3' . is 'f ry., ff! 4 .- r1'I !Gxf,f 'QQEETQ Sophomore Class Officers Left to right: Roger Frank and Charlotte Immenhauser - SCIECZLIIIS-il--5-121,53 Nancy Wilkerson - Reportexg Sammy Thompson - Secretary5 Sharon Wood - President -, Robert Thiele - Presidentg :md Sharon Boothe - Treasurer.
