TOPIC OF DISCUSSION It was the tame of year when the buds of flowers come out and the mercury begins to ruse I was standmg wlth my classmate a tall blond with hazel eyes and a turned up nose We got to talking about what had happened durmg the past eight years She was telling me the way she felt about the school In the fnrst few years thungs were easy There was no problem no yearn :ng for the day of graduatlon But thus new feeling arose every September of the last few years It grew as the goal came closer Fmally the year came the year of graduation Now It was only a matter of months then a matter of weeks But as the weeks became days a different feellng grew Inside her She heard herself saylng Well you wanted graduation and now its commg The long awaited graduation was no longer wanted She was puzzled It was now my turn to speak I knew exectly haw she felt for I too had thus feelmg I related what had been told to me Lufe IS luke a fast flowlnc rlver whuch never stops In order to keep up with the pace you must realize what IS happening as It occurs not after You must make quick and understand mg declslons that wlll lead towards a good future I could see these words were of comfort to her for she smiled and changed the topic ANN SILVER Class 8 T R A G E D Y I stood over the body feeling strlcken It was my dog Aphrodute now horrlbly dead Aphrodute had been run over by a hut and run drzver Her name came from Aphrodnte the Greek Godess of love and beauty My Aphrodlte had been beautiful too Rnght now she was stall black and white with a brown spot over her right eye but she was also covered with blood You cannot possibly know how I felt then unless thus had happened to you I was an eight year old boy with no brothers or slsters Aphrodnte had been both Aphrodite I whlspered hoping for a loyous bark but knowung I would never get an answer I bent over and land my head on her poor chest I hugged her closely to me I knew ld be promised anythung I wanted but I also knew that nothing could replace Aohrodlte I felt a sudden vengeance agalnst the drrver but even revenge could not substntute for Aphrodnte I had been brouaht up never to seek revenge not to want It Being human naturally I wanted It In a sntuatxon luke thus But the sudden feeling vanished and I was too remorseful to do or feel anything I heard the siren of the ambulance that was commg to take Aphrodite away l felt pangs of fear In my heart and held her closer I started thmklng of what I was going to do to the driver of the car Im gonna klll hum I crled Im gonna Im gonna Aphrodutes rough wet tongue on my face woke me p I saw the brown spot over her rught eye and half choked her with the hug I gave when I realized I had been dreamlng I had other toys What dld I care If Aphrodxte ate one? I still had had no right to hut her so hard I suddenly reallzed how much she meant to me I promlsed myself always to take proper care of her and to see that she would never be out alone where she could get hut by a hut and run drnver SHEILA SILVER Class 8 21 - 1 I ' I ' - - 1 1 . , - - 1, - - 1 - 11 1 1 ' . . ,, . . . . .
