dorm life lay aside the best book whenever you can go into the best company; and depend upon it, you change for the better. lord chesterfield one aspect of yeshiva university which cannot be measured by academic standards of dorm life, it is defmitely an education in itself call it the art of survival. both morg and rubin dorm- itories have their high spots while it is true that the walls in rubin are decidedly thin, it is not true that someone on the seventh floor can answer amen to a second floor resident ' s blessing — they both have to be on the same floor for that to work, the hot and cold water situation is just that — hot and cold, the fact that wind gusts over 15 m.p.h. tend to shatter the rubin windows also makes life interesting for rubin residents. mi jam S m V K im E3s ,;: w , ] .J - I f ' lE!: Ep WM l V §» i lis i q iBi ■■ r v ' 81.

.there are, on the other hand, scores of professors at y.u. who will gladly answer a question out of context, or spend a few minutes after class with a student. scratch the green rind of a sapling, or wantonly twist it in the soil, and a scarred or crooked oak will tell of the act for centuries to come,, so it is with the teachings of youth, which makes impressions on the mind and heart that are to last forever. the highest function of the teacher consists not so much in imparting knowledge as in stimulating the pupil in its love and pursuit, to know how to suggest is the art of teaching. ramiel it is impossible to come to an overall conclusion as to the general quality of yeshiva ' s education, the range of teaching ability is as wide as the university budget gap. while certain departments are known for their general excellence, others do not deserve a place in the yeshiva university catalogue, it is hard to imagine more energy devoted by a teacher than that on the part of a certain speech department professor who s pends nights at y.u. perfecting the dramatics society presentations, it is also very difficult to conceive of a more relaxing class than that given by a certain english professor. - society is now one polished horde, formed of two mighty tribes, ■mm the bdres and the bored. there teachers who sit and lecture about differential equations, hi{ and 1 medulla oblongata with great dexterity, however, try ask] question which is not contained in their lecture notes ... morg, of course, is the luxury dorm, if a student can acquire a second floor room, he is key. if he gets a suite, he ' s either super l ey or the roomate of the student council president, the rooms in morg are larger, the heat hotter and the Johns safer, the t.v. room and floor lounges are fine for t.v. or lounging. morg, however, also has its unique problems, the beds do not move, are mostly wooden boards, and the matresses are covered by a sticky plastic that clings to your skin and makes you sweat, the food machines are hardly ever full, and when they are full, they ' re usually broken, morg residents have developed nervous twitches in their necks from constantly looking up in fear of flying water bombs.
