Some sought knowledge, others— grades, and yet others — nothing. To each of us Yeshiva meant just what he wanted to make of it. If we are to share the credit for our academic success, we must also accept our share of the blame for what failures we have suffered at the hands and minds of Yeshiva.

What has it been? What has it meant? What have we made of Yeshiva? A warm, living, meaningful form of Judaism was expounded in certain classes — but honest effort was needed to benefit from such instruction. Those of us sincerely interested in strengthening religious feelings found here a source of knowledge and inspiration. Yet there were others, unwilling, unable — uninterested. For them it was sufficient to go through the motions of cramming facts into their heads and regurgitating them into examination booklets.

Yeshiva ' s idea of synthesis is to combine a half day of intensive Jewish studies with a full load of college courses. Assumingthat the average student can, somehow, succeed in school under this burden, what of the effect on his personal philosophy? To whom should he turn for guidance, his religious studies teacher or his college professor? In answer to any specific problem one might be given advice ranging from the most unyieldingtraditionalism to the most liberal rationalism. This, then, is the fallacy behind Public Relations ' claim to synthesis — no unified, workable and cogent philosophy of synthesis exists. Until one is formulated, Yeshiva will be but a spiritual and intellectual cafeteria, where one may pick that which suits him best.
