During our time here Yeshiva has expanded. Yet, even within the narrow context of Yeshiva, the word expansion is metaphorical. Does it aggrandize the University ' s name at the cost of subverting the Yeshiva, or does it bring badly needed money at the expense of harming the college? Doubtless it does both in varying degrees. Regardless of which is its most salient effect, expansion has become an integral part of our Yeshiva experience. We have welcomed it and opposed it; welcomed it when it seemingly made Yeshiva a better place to learn and grow, opposed it when the growth appeared uncontrollable and pointless. The crossroads have been reached; growth without purpose, consolidation and foresight must be checked. Yeshiva will grow; of that we are certain. Perhaps the growth will lead in the direction of new spiritual and educational heights — perhaps not.

There are difficulties involved in managing a Yeshiva University administration. Complaining students, unimaginable heaps of paperwork and a general lack of facilities make life miserable for countless secretaries and administrators. From the students ' point of view, however, the Administration is often more than justifiably uncooperative. The outdated bulletin boards, the fouled up transcript requests, the bureaucracy, the occasional sneakiness, the paternalism, the well-intentioned bumbling, the unyielding and unprogressive regulations, the red tape— these are our impressions of the Yeshiva administration. Yet each of us has experienced some moment when an administrator or secretary went out of his or her way to get us into a closed section, clear us with our draft board, or expedite matters through some mysterious high-echelon channel. Though we realize that the Administration under its present circumstances could not be much different from what it is, our feelings remain, at best, ambivalent.
