I don't know exactly how I felt when I was a fresh- man. l guess I wus sort ofscared. Not so much of teachers and new friends and a new school. butjust not knowing what was going to happen next. Fulda. Orientation. The Iirst day. Confusion. No lockers. Going to the third Floor instead of the second, tl still dot. Trying to get a seat near your friends. Didn't mutter. You were seated alphabetically, anyway. Except in Doc's class. It came in pretty handy for tests . . . Tests. Opportunities. Teachers definition of good behavior. Most of us wouldn't admit it now but we were really seared of some ol' them . . . The first freshman class in the new building --us. It seemed we were the worst class any teacher had, or so they said. The Blackout. Stuck on 11 train. The transit strike. Hitching to school. History being made. Impressions. Rolling down the skirts for Darduc. Rolling them up for Iilhuz. I remember going to N.B.C. I came home at 9. Forgot to call my mother. She nearly killed me. Freshmen trying out for everything. Not making anything. Except ifyou had pull Everything is so big and 5ou're so smull. big sister might ask you how you're doing. O.K., I guess . lt seemed l was always bogged down with homework. Always some test waiting around the bend. In the middle of the year you decided it was time to get to know the girl who sat next to you. And like all freshman weekends, ours took place in Boro Park. We really had nothing much planned. But, we had a good time, anyway. Satur- day night, being good religious girls we ended up in shul lwith a minyonl. Othello. Shakespeare. The World's Fair. Pavilions.
