My mind wanders in many dlrectlons A BUBBLE DREAM By Linda Boyarsky Life is but a bowl of cherries and other similar maxims might give a fairly accurate description of my life in the world of day dreams. You might even say that life Mis coming up roses. But I seem to be leaving you with a pastoral picture and that truly wouldn't represent what my dreams stand for. I wake up each morning and dash off to school, where I am sur- rounded by familiar faces and am taught, a bit to my consternation, too familiar ideas. I dash home to dinner and homework and perhaps an occasional television program where I become exposed to the 'foutside world of reality, like The Girl From U. N. C. L. E. This life has the same type of hypnotic effect as the swinging pendulum that a grandfather clock may have, and I usually find myself slowly drifting ofl' into the realm of daydreaming where 1 am the master of my fatef' The effect is quite soothing and is 10071 better than any tranquilizer or barbituate known to the men of medicine. In times of stress as in times ofjoy, I End solace in my world and escape from the pressures of my life. And what do I dream of? I dream of things that to you might seem prosaic, but are representative of the dreams any normal Central girl would have. I dream of meeting my Prince Charming as he comes galloping through town on his fleet-footed, snow-white steed. I also dream of things in the less distant future. I dream of getting a 700 average on the College Boards and of winning a Merit Scholar- ship Cat least a Regents Scholarshiplj My daydreams build a bubble around me but alas, that world and I aren't invulnerable to attack from the harsh world of stark reality. Even the smallest of things could burst the bubble and collapse my world. I was considerably shaken when I learned that I didnit score a 700 average on the Boards. Many times my world was rocked to and fro. Many times it has shattered and crumbled into dust. But always I rebuilt my world, adding to it and improving it to Ht my new mood. Despite my rather shaky existence in my world of daydreams, I have come to an important decision regarding them. It was on dreams that this world was built and it will be on dreams that new worlds will be built. Even as I continue to harden to the reality of life, I shall cling desperately to my daydreams. For perhaps, someday I will fuse reality and fantasy and help do my part towards the creation of a better world. B
