This makes it diH:icult for us, with this theoretical supremacy, to acknon ledge a power or being which is greater than we. Yet, we know that there is a governing force which rules, leads, and controls. For, if there were not, why then would we experience emotional, psychological and anatorno- logical changes xvithin us, why would we see changes in the physical environ- ments surrounding us? .Xlany scientific theories have been given that have been accepted by many and challenged by many. But, have we not seen all through the ages hoxv expression of a simple prayer has changed an entire situation? How then can it be said that all that is revolving about us is caused by scientific factors? Do miracles not prove that there is a Divine Being govern- ing every movement, thought, and ideal of our very existence? An eternal and omnipresent Being is hard to accept, for we realize that while our xvay is ours to choose, this Spiritual force knows the end result of this choice. This concept at first contact may cause stupefying effects. The human thus realizes hoxv inhibited his actions and thoughts are. VVS are truly clay in the hands of the Creator and He may mold and shape us as He sees Ht. Then, as man begins to think of his seemingly fruitless plight, he may begin to realize that this Being which rules over him is awesomely great. His greatness is exemplified in every speck around us, everything which causes us to take note and experience a certain feeling within us. If this Being is so great, will He not guide us to use our minds to the fullest, guide our bodies to their ultimate capacity so that each man in turn may make life better for mankind as a whole? Yes, G-d rules, but man could not exist if he were not part of this Divine kingdom. Man would not knoxv how to exercise and appreciate all that was given to him. Indeed we are merely mortals who are placed in the world as actors on a stage controlled by an infallible and immortal Director, but as Leishrnan, the great poet once said, G-d conceived the world, that was poetry, He planned it, that was sculpture, He colored it, that was painting, He peopled it with living beings, that VVas the Grand Divine Eternal Drama. - l 'W ff! ' gon! l I . Q if 5 Ll ii By Eileen Elbaum She Walked up the mountain that was both steep and high, forever striving to reach the top. There's no accounting for the difliculties incurred, progress procured. She strove-that's all that can be said. Not alone in such a great task she was, Not seeking the fame and glory which would then be hers Many have tried, some succeeded-some failed. She tried-enough for that. Mans power is great, his strength and Wisdom, those G-d given mights, enable him to climb higher-higher. Man's desire is great- to build great things and that which is beauty. To overcome the wrongs he sees about him, and make freedom and right ring throughout the world. Nlan's ambition is great. It is sometimes too great- to succeed, to erect, to leave his mark on the globe. Though times may come when his wisdom he loses, and G-d he ignores, his innate goodness will triumph and all will be well- we hope not too late. The mountain is long and steep, But the first step is gained. Belief-man's strength, his greatness, his goodness. Belief-which did so many things in centuries proceeding, will bring him to overcome all obstacles. For trying-that is near all. It is this that is meant by a man, who, seeking to express in his poor and de- ficient language the vast significance of his thoughts, says that he feels a bond of close- ness between himself and G-d. Israel, the Holy Land of G-d's chosen people and, perhaps, of the entire world, kindles a great passion in the hearts of those who understand its importance in the evolution of human ideology. One of the basic tenets of Jewish philosophy is that G-d will reveal himself to mankind only through his chosen prophets and only in the land of Israel. The prophet Isaiah tells us that G-d showed to him only the hem of his robe and wisdom, and the prophet was forced to lower his head as protection against G-d's blazing appearance, a very minute spark of the magnitude of his greatness. Only there, can man fully grasp and comprehend the greatness of the bit of understanding He sees ht to reveal to us. i YTX 4 710 1 It is only in our land, encircled by the hills that felt the very winds of His might and glory, and the rivers that knew the honey of His sweetness and kindness, that we can accept His gift and use it to create new heights for ourselves and the rest of mankind. Israel is a country permeated with the spirit of an ancient civilization whose ideology has served a people who have not only grown and blossomed more strongly through the ages but whose phi- losophy has served as a backbone for the rest of the civilized world. Only there can we visualize clearly the exalted purpose of a nation which has not yet learned the meaning of defeat. In an environment close both to G-d and to His people it is easier to know exactly why, and for what pur- pose, He has chosen to give us this power, this spark of light, and the best way for us to use it, is to strengthen the bond be- tween G-d and His people. .xdnafomy 0 an .xdcfor By Phyllis Shapiro In a dark and desolate theatre stood an actor-an old man. Oh G-d, I half whispered. Suddenly my throat tightened and my entire body was heavily covered with sweat. Oh G-d. I cried in a half whisper. That man is me. Desperately I searched for the face of another actor. No! I don't care who it would be but please . . . I would give anything in the world to see the face of another mortal. Oh you fool. you utter fool, my mind repeatedly echoed. Don't you know there's nothing to fear but fear itself? Please, I ask you, nay. I beg you, keep still! How strange it, is to be com- pletely alone in a place that had but five minutes earlier been occupied by a multitude of people. I Unusually for the first time. the other half of me. my better half perhaps, did not answer me. It remained silent. Why? I wondered why? Look at me! I yelled in disgust. Look at me! echoed my voice. I have lived for fifty-nine years and what have I to show for it? Wihat am I? A loathsome actor! I had visions and ambitions of becoming one of the brilliant actors of all times. I dreamed also of touring the entire world. I fancied that people would say he was not of an age but of all time. You may ridicule my goals, my aspirations. but they were worthwhile goals to be striven for. For couldnt I, me the great actor. enter a dreamworld such as Alice did? Suddenly. a strange voice began to speak. Find yourself. my friend, it said. The profession of an actor is a dignified and wonderful one. You have done much more than most men ever do in their lifetime. Did you ever look at it in that light? You have toured the entire world-via acting. VVhile acting you had to picture yourself in all parts of the globe. Do you not know that there is no place as beautiful at that which is a figment of your own imagination? Not only have you met different and exalting people but you have actually also lived the lives of these various people in a period of a week. You could change from a rich snob to a poor peasantg from an ardent lover to a spy. You have within yourself the power to command people. The audience is willing to be controlled by the very expression of your eyes or by a mere gesture of your hand. Is this loathsome? Is this something to be scorned? Remember my friend, there is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so. A new philosophy of life. an outlook on life was put forth to me. I pon- dered long and hard over it. I repeated the words again and again in my mind. There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so. Only the sharp clicking of my heels was heard as I walked out of the theatre. I felt different this time. I was unafraid. I now was a strong and proud man. G-d's in His heaven. all's right with the world. 1 l W 11:11 11:n :3 1n1 1111111 ,s:1 n1:w 1:1121 111:5n11 1p33n 113:11 531 :15:111s :111 n31n:: 1n:5 n:1 13111 1:11 :1 1513 ,15::11 nx 5531951 FIJTD' 1:113'113n1: WDW' n:1w111 ws1 - n15111:11n 7172183 n1:u'3 53' 1:11n n1: 111113 15321 153 11113531 153:11 771351171 ns .n111111 5: 11: 13 7735? 11511 1s: 121:33 53 11:55 s5 1:78 5:1 1:51311 ID 113133 p1131 1111131 ,511311 55:11 53 H5173 13111111 31151 .TDWDD p11: 111:31:1 13 1n11:1: 111315n 11511 1:11 115 11111 31n31:n 113531: 1:13153 111113 TTT n1:135 TIT ,TJJTDNT5 5:11 1111 111 5:: .p11:51 31315 11111 TITPTJT 1:51:3 'IDU 717 5:: .TJDWD5 1153 1:111:13 58'lW' :3 113 n11 311 115 11311 13111 11:11 TN ,13111: .5113 RSPB? 111:11:1 qs: 1133 :p1 F115 1:31 13131311 3:1111 TWP 113133 :11:: 11131113 511313 N111 113:1 ,1:1111 113m 53' 11111 1131: HWTTJTD 11u'1111,, 1:: ,11:31 '1 133 13111 13111 15 :1:31: 11113 ws w1n :1113311 ,n513's I3 5s11:11 13: nm .'J'D'T.?'j .1n13 1:11: 1:11331 111: ,:13p1111 '1 .5p UTDD 1: 1:1n1 11:3 1311! 5:11 113111 ,11:1:5 1155pn D8 135 11:n1 131p15s 1:11111111 ,1:3: 17331 .:11: D115 5:11n1 ,11111:w5 5:1 .1:111:11s n5:1:: 1s111 EFI'NJWL?'2 1135311 1:1p113111 n1:1:1 13111:111 1:1p11:n n1:1: nr :1p1131 1:15113 1: .1:1:5135 1357! 123 113111 1:13133 1131111 1: 1:1111 .1:n1111:1: 1n11 :nn11:: 121:11 13:5 n11313 EDPTS1 13n1:1 5:11 1:31111 .DLJTTTD 11:1 S5 IZ??JIZ1'U 'I WDW i'K7TT,, DWIJTTW H1152 DSC 111:3 w11:1 N5 1:11:1:1: 5s1:11 nsx: 1511 8519 72 .n515 msn 111:31 :1:11 11311 'ms 331 118 1:3n 111111 S531 11: ,n1 s:1 TTT DTIJWT1 11111:n1: HIFI 131 :11s1:1:1 .1313 15: .FIQW 53:1 Dj 5:: 5:31:11 52 1 CNET! 13111 :1p113 1'f5 311 1111 111 5:: 5113 111s 311: 1311 :11:3:51 .11:13 :513n .:1p :51311 1153 1:11 :513n 5: 11:1 S777 1:: 1ns 1113 5:1 n:'1::3' n3p:' s5:' 131 1311::n 1113s13' 11:: 13:' p11x 53' 11:13:31 H7117 131p 1313' x5:' TD ,3:'11111 11311: 52 5 1 1:1:51: n1:1151 :n5115 51nnn:' nw: 513' TTER 111:z1:13' n1111 ,n11111: 1111 1:3: 13's 1:15113 W5 ns 11:n 1::' 1: :131:: 3:'1n1 5::' :111 .n5n.15 :ms ns 5s1:'15 1n:1 1:1:51:n 5811111 ns :13:1:n mn QLVZFI' ,n1: n::'1: 1: 1:1115 58772221 153 :11::11:'n TQ 11283 ID 11:31 11511 s:11 1135135 153 1n:11 :U s5:' 72 1n3p1: 153 1313 111: 853' 73 .11:1p1:: ?'S1TDTJ' 111: 1:5n 115 113: 1:1 131:1: 115:3'1:1:n 11p:::1 '1 111:: ,1n1133: 11s11n,, 31:1n 1:: ,q'1 n1:513 1:13111 151:5 51x31 ns n:'1: 13's .5x1:'1 n13:5 pp1n:'n wx ,'T7'T 151:n 1:':1:1 1::'s n1:5:' 1513 1:: :11:1: s:1 1p1 ,'15 n1: .s:'3n1 :1n '1 n1: ns n13:5 n:1 51p:'n :1s311: 51735 s:1p3 '1 nr::': 52 111s,,: 111131 TIWTEUJT ,1n:'11p: n1:'1:: n:n1:1n 115131 11: 1:-:1: n151np 51npn 1:'s 111:1:11 5s1:'1 S1313 ,1:1 151: 5s1::'1r: n11n :1111 13 :p31 n15111p 113111: ,n3 '1:11 ns --- .I HII NY A , X Q: !y V H 111 F1 l Rf IES D 5IJ' 111:s1 111321: :sn 11s:11 11111:1:.1: .11:53:m 1111s 5: 1111:53 D8 n3:111 ,1:1:3 i11::'n S5 :111n11111 HSS' 11111:1:1: :111::1,, ,:111111 11: mms TT 11111:1 1: 11:1 :1111 11:3n 131:11 73731 l 31:111 s5 :nn 1:13 111113111 1:'s1 1:1: 131s 1:3 1111:11 11x 11:311 3373 11n11 111s1:1111 11:n15 :1 EFXWFI ET ,1:z11s5 1111111:1: 1111 51::1:11 11751271 'EWS 113:12 1:1 ,11:'11: 1111:5s11 52 :1p115 1:1:11111:' ,5s11v1 1'1s: DTTDTDDVI 1111:11 :1 sm m 5: - 111112211 m:11: TJ'T.J'1'TP 11:1 51p .1::1s1 51:11:11 5:2 11:'11111:11 :n1:1sn U2 :1p31x ! 111:1 :11111 1:1p11 1111s,, 111113 n1:1: TP n:1 . 1311: S: 1: FIJJVX5 113,, 7'1 Wh 1132? Katz Before all creation, one masterpiece ex- isted. A masterpiece so powerful, so won- derful that for it G-d created the heavens and the earth. This masterpiece, holy and overflowing with the perfection that only G-dliness can give, is the basis for our creation. lt is the TORAH. Torah was for the entire world, yet, many nations were unwilling to accept her. Torah Wanted to leave her heavenly abode in order to fulnll her purpose here on earth, but alas no one wanted her. No one, that is, except the jews when they were finally freed from Egypt. Torah was given to teach us the way to unite with Hashem, how to serve Him every moment of our lives. VVe were given to Torah to be her priests, to awaken the world to the Torah's ideals, and, most im- portant, to bring man closer to the Al- mighty. Frequently during our history, it ap- peared as if the Torah had been a great burden upon the back of the jew, the cause of persecution, of physical anguish to the jew, yet, nothing could lessen the spiritual elations that the Torah imparted to him. The Torah is the jew's world-his whole life. lt is his source of courage and strength, his eternal light to what is good and what is evil. In Torah the jew Ends answers to all his problems as it is said Seek and seek, for all is in it. ' X 1 ' 2 fl f f v I. 9 fe t Clflglflflfgeff fa cie.- ,Af , ,V sql N '1 3 . Mn gourd and Wofre 664:56 cle jrancaid Par Libby Koenigsberg La cloche vient de sonner. Depechons- nous! Courons! . . fReproduction of accents was not possible.j S3 7777 75771 777, l'17D7S7 1377575 ?'1Si77 3'iDD3'3P H2717 USD 17777777 r1:1?r15 nr::: nzmzvrs f'7Ni7 7'PDI7 TIT78 :1s?r:r: ::1Jp11::': H753 1:11:1:1r:n 7HTJ 1:5 y111 :1r:y:5 .:1r:51:1 1r:1,1ns11 .1pr1::'r1 'ww 111yn: z:1u'1111: Us 1:51 11p::1n :ss 11:53:21 ,733 y111 111p:n 1114 2775 its .1J11s1: 777i mr: :ww N3 rm? 171175 m1m:11 1n1s1:r:u' 11:15 77217 :1:11x 13:4 '::s 1111: P7 sm nr:1sr1 513 unsr: 7I7N 5: 5:1 rxmwrm 5:9 amy: 777 ,r1:1: 78 ,1pr1:' mms n:111r:1 :11n1n: r1:w11: r1:115yn Q77T2,, 5'1s:': 11s 1:51 .:11r1: 1J1:11: 1:r: ,rms I7D7H?2 211411 P7 738 1: , ?F7T377 'f177777T7 5: 31: 72 1:1:r:1 ND7S,,i7 '1 P7 mm, ,s1::r1 11:1: .mmsrx 5: nx 3111 . 111: :ns ID 1311: 11: 1r:1r1: n1: ,1:51yn :av 7785 mp P5F7 777987 1131: nr::: wrzwrz sm qs ,i11::: 1:1:: .I7D3D3 mms H5737 nr:1:r: rms nn: .pass 11:5 77 mrs: 53 :1Jpr11:': 1:3::1n mms 713 7157277 ,73'77T2 ,D73'T73T2Ti .E'3D' 2278 .17'D3 '7E7TXV2 EUPTSU' 73' H7723 7:23 7317173 - E'7T7Tl 777 731778 777377 731778 TIP7 772 77077 73778 71777277 ,732 7723 .H77J7H 777 7712 7573 - D'3l777H 73I77?J7 S78 72327 1772772 738 722227 .T777DT2FI 17'7T.7 T'D'7' H7775 :mi nssv 177337737 1:.:n rv: 1511: ns nian 1:s1 .n:11:n m::n by y1:1n51 :mn 1r111,, .73'17' nwyrzz m1::- :111vn1:'1 rvvzczw . 1:1':y '1 cy: - 'sums-'rg' ,.
