Q ig if Of mg iworld Dusk: The melodic chant of the ritual benediction over the kindling of the Sabbath candles haunts the air, heralding the approach of the holy Queen. Each candle, a sentinel of time, shines proudly, beaming forth a tiny ray of light which glows as if with a secret vision, casting mysterious shadows whose vague shapes seem to contain the hidden secrets of the world. Look, deep in those flickering shadows lies the symbol of all the Iewish women who have passed through the annals of history kindling the lamp of humanity, shedding light on the seeds of civilization, reaping the fertile fruits to benefit all man- kind. Dark: The lonely wail of Ghettos, of grief beneath oppression, can be heard throughout the world. The ominous cloud of death hangs heavy over the Iewish people who cry out beneath the deluge of terror. The sparks of love inherent in every woman cannot be extinguished beneath this torment of tears, instead they wield together in a flame of hope, searing the bitter fruits of war and strife and blazing a path towards the promise of a land, a nation, a dream. Dawn: The vibrant throb of life swells into harmony, the birth of a new day floods the sky with light. Ever since the miracle which first set the pulse of the world in motion, Iewish women have brought us the guiding lights of prophetesses, the wisdom of Iudges, the spirits of warriors, and the encom- passing love of motherhood. Unobtrusively, they have endowed the treasures of the world with lavish gifts, leaving an indelible imprint upon countless vocations ranging from art to science, from education to housekeeping. With pure hearts and willing hands they have hewed compassion out of the rough stone of man's intolerance to man, smoothing the jagged edges of prejudice, molding destiny with the creation of brotherhood, the world's promise of peace. Pf0phc'.fy.' The great faith of all womanhood has served as an incentive throughout the centuries, guiding the paths of the preceding generations who have stum- bled along the byways of life in quest of an ideal. This great faith which stems from every woman is the light of the world, and, like a shining beacon, it will continue to light the path for posterity down through the ages. Pearl Kidcmsky
