The new laboratory has also encouraged more students to take elec- tive courses in chemistry and physics, and has necessitated the addition of a second chemistry class. General science and biology, which are given in the Hrst and second years. are required for graduation and give the students an excel- lent background in the expanding world of science.

ART Although it is the smallest in the school, the Minors Depart- ment ably serves the needs of the students in art, music and physical education. The most prominent aspects of the art course are its emphasis on the fundamentals and history of art, while much emphasis in the music program is placed on the appreciation of the famous classical works. In physical education, development of the body and the values of clean sportsmanship are stressed. MUSIC . Expanding to meet the needs of the times, the department has worked out a complete and unique card system for the student body. Originally insti- tuted to orient freshmen and sophomores, the department now performs the particular function of helping upper class- men in their choice of college and vocation.
