- Winn cum! God bless you, Mom, and also you, Dad, For bringing me into this world like you have. When I was in grammar school you didn't fret If I came home with my clothes torn and wet. When I had the measles and chicken pox too, Who stayed up with me at night? I'm sure it was you. My Birthdays! You always remembered them and more 'Though I often forget the day of yours. You never lost your temper when I was late For dinner or a very important date. The dinner was kept in the oven to heat So that I wouldn't have to eat cold pig's feet. My clothes were washed and ironed each week And the holes were mended before they could be weak. When I asked for the car it was usually given Because you knew I thought I was really livin'. You footed my bills for eighteen years And taught me to smile in spite of my tears. Supporting my viewpoint in the face of opposition And helping me to better my position. And all the fuss you made over my first date, Even though I got home late. I brought home my homework night after night You helped me get A's with all your might. On Sundays I'd always sleep late, And wake up in time to keep a date. When I received my diploma, you looked so proud, I could see your face beaming as I looked into the crowd.
