NATIONAL THESPIANS The National Thespian Society is an educational honor and service organization of teachers and students, established for the advancement of dramatic arts in the secon- dary schools. Our Troupe 1373 wa s established s ix years ago. Two three-act plays are put on yearly by the National Thespians. Besides this we attend conventions, play contests, have a school dance, and initiation in the spring. They present two plays a year. Mem- bership is open to any stu- dent in high school. The o n ly requirement is th e paymentof 50 rt dues. The studen1s then compete for parts and work on the plays for points to gain admission into National Thespians. Lastyear, under the direction of Mr. Delacy, the thespians presented The 13th Chair as their spring play. This fall with a new director, Miss Mur- rell, they presented The Miracle Worker . HONOR SOCIETY The purpose of the National Honor Society of Yelm High School is to create a desire for s c h ol- arship and to encourage the development of character. To be eligible for me mbership , a student musthave at leasta sopho- more standing, a 3. OO ac- cumulative grade p o in t , and be in the upper third of his class . The Honor Society members and fac- ulty then elect m e mb e rs on the basis of service, leadership, s cho la rship, and character. To honor the members, the Honor Society sponsors an annual banquet to which the fa culty , parents of members, and freshmen with a 3.00 grade average for the year are invited. Graduating m e mb e rs are given Honor S o c i e ty certificates and honor cords to wear at graduation. It is the story of Helen Keller, a blind deaf mute, and the open- ing of anew world for her--a world of comprehension. Not only is it a story of Helen, but a story of her great teacher, Anne Sullivan . Anne herself had known the frus- tration of blindness, Through patience and determination, the defiant Helen is transformed from an animal-like beast to a human being.
