Stage call! All eyes up here! or Use your dia- phramsl are familiar statements to students in plays or chorus. Always striving for the very best, you have taught us good standards, in addition to bringing much enjoyment to us and the community. ln teaching, you have endeavored to help us learn as much as possible. As a friend, you have given fun, help, and understanding. Your encouragement has helped many to encounter un- known or unmet challenges. Your philosophies have touched us, too. And wholly appreciated are your many, many hours and efforts for us and the school. We will remember you for all of these things as a part of our high school days. To you Miss Helen Simon, our teacher, director, advisor, and friend, we are proud to dedicate this yearbook. Leading them are Darlene Hawkey, their class pres- ident, Bob Jones, vice president, Cynthia Hull, secretary, and Arney Rogers, sergeant-at-arms. Tornado week is in progress along with initiation. The class is seen carrying books, saluting seniors and reciting poems. ln the initiation assembly yells and laughs are heard as Camp K kids, chipmunks, and beautiful Chinese women appear. Also seen coming into high school with the class is the well-known demerit system. The class seems to find out a lot about this. As the year progresses, the Freshmen hold their dance, When You Wish Upon A Star. The tough bounce now popular, is being danced. The girls are seen wearing baggy sweaters and pointed shoes. The boys start wearing pegged pants and white sox. At the end of the year students who have a perfect attendance are: Judy Butler, Kirby Hull, Sid Willuweit, Judy Triplett, Linda McCarten, Darlene Hawkey, and Bob Jones. The Play progresses and Act ll is begun. Now there are 60 students in the Sophomore class. Offi- cers are all boys this year with president, Fred Ferguson, vice president, Bob Jones, secretary, Robin Phillips, and sergeant-at-arms, Dennis Grinde. Kennedy wins the Presidential election, making some students happy and others unhappy. During National Education week, the class wins a trip for having the most parents visit school. Bringing distinction to their class ore: MoryAnne Herness when she won a trip to Waterloo, lowa, to the Nation- al Dairy Cattle Congress, Diana Koeppen and Shir- ley Hughes as they are elected second team yell leaders, and Cheri Demich as ci member of the sex- tet, which won a superior rating. Fads currently seen are tennis shoes of all shades and also the twist. The Sophomore Hop with the theme Roar- ing 20's is a huge success with costumes and con- tests. Sophomores eligible for Honor Society this year are: MaryAnne Herness, Pat Mosman, and Dianne Tobin. As the year comes to a close, more honors are bestowed on classmates at the awards assembly: Judy Butler, Kirby Hull, Barbara Perona, and Judy Triplett have perfect attendance for the year. Pat Mosman is awarded best actress for the n year. Mary Lou Ismay and Loren Wright receive the National Educational Development Test Scholastic Achievement Award. Fifty-seven students are cast as Juniors as the curtain rises again on Act Ill. Sid Willuweit is leading as president, with MaryAnne Herness, vice president, Pat Mosman, secretary, and Mardene Sias and Dennis Grinde, sergeant-at-arms. They come back to a remodeled school with no auditorium, a new classroom, and lockers downstairs. Soon a key switch is installed in the downstairs boy-girl lockers. Many of the Juniors are seen taking trips. Sid Willuweit is chosen to go the Waterloo, Iowa, this year to the National Dairy Cattle Congress. Pat Mosman attends Leadership Camp at Waskowitz. Pacific Slope Press Clinic delegates are Sid Willu- weit and Nora Hayes. Mary Lou lsmay, Kirby Hull, Pat Mosman, Diane Stewart, Linda Whited, and Mary Anne Herness are chosen to attend a drama con- ference at the University. Cliff Reichel is a dele- gate to the state FFA convention at Pullman. To earn money, the class sells sno cones, and are seen ,working together on many projects. The Seattle WorId's Fair attracts many. Skirts are seen shorter now with the girls wearing teased hair and bows. The boys start wearing collar bars. Another first this year is the consideration of consolidation of surrounding schools. Of great importance is the Junior Prom, Over the Rainbow. It is lavishly decorated and turns out to be a grand success. Dionne Tobin and Dick Willis are the reigning prince and princess. Girls from the class on the pep staff are: Diana Koeppen, Shirley Hughes, and MaryAnne Herness. Loren Wright is seen ioining Honor Society and Mary Lou lsmay, Diane Stewart, and Linda Whited join Pat Mosman in Masquers, honor- ary Thespians. Bringing honors to the class are: MaryAnne Herness as YeIm's candidate for the I Speak for Democracy contest, Judy Butler, Kirby Hull and Linda McCarten have perfect attendance, Dianne Tobin and Kirby Hull receive the Best Citi- zen Award, and Bob Jones receives the free throw- ing accuracy award. As Act IV opens, we see Mardene Sias as presi- dent, Kirby Hull, vice president, Cheri Demich, sec- retary, and Dennis Grinde again as sergeant-at- arms. The students moan as the price of lunches goes up to 304. As seniors, the class handles initi- ation. Over the summer, Mardene Sias and Pat Mos- man have attended Girls' State and Sid Willuweit and Kirby Hull have attended Boys' State. Sid Willuweit also wins a trip to Chicago to attend the National 4-H Congress as Washington State's 4-H Achievement Champion. A new activity seen this year is the Homecoming Parade along with the rest of the Home- coming festivities. It appears a successful event. Also new this year is the organization of the Nation- al Thespians. Seniors eligible for this MaryAnne Herness, Kirby Hull, Mary Lou lsmay, Pat Mosman, Diane Stewart, Linda Whited, Sid Willuweit, and Loren Wright. More honors are now won by members of the class. Dianne Tobin is the DAR candidate. Linda Whited, as Tornado News Editor, is the Paci- fic Slope Press Clinic Delegate. Awarded out- standing actress of a play and ioining Masquers is MaryAnne Herness. Selected for all Northwest Chorus are Cheri Demich and Loren Wright, and Robin Phillips and Kirby Hull are chosen for the select band. Ron Bates is a representative to the Science Lecture Holiday program. Fads seen are more and different sweat shirts for the boys, petti- punts, patent leather, fur-collared coats, and wig hats. To be remembered are Telstar and the Cuban crisis. The Senior Ball is held with the theme, Silver Bells, and Lynn Mastick and Les Moe reign over the dance. It is profitable and successful, and the class is again proud of their record of iobs and activities well done. With graduation on May 24, 1963, this Act IV ends. But the play, acts, or scenes for these in- dividuals will not stop. The class, when choosing their motto, indicate that they will go on making every day an important one. Today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and each tomorrow a vision of hope. Senior Ball Once upon a December night, Silver Bells echoed the romantic music of Dick Redman's orchestra from the busy side- walks of our cafeteria dressed in holiday style. People passing, greeting smile after smile danced til the magic hour of midnight surrounded by an enchanting toy shop, a one-reindeer sleigh, and Frosty. Soon it would be Christmas Day, but for this special night Santa was forgotten and Lynn Mastick and Les Moe were crowned Queen and King by our Senior class Vice- President Kirby Hull. Tiny crown- bearers, Edie McMonigle and Bobby Aschenbrenner, lead the royal procession of princes and princesses, representing all four classes, to the wooded glen which enshrined their thrones.
