The Tofmmio of 15162 mmm bg uwmwwemgg vw ufgu Qaww Ydww, Wasldngtow Man seeks the future. In 20 prior centuries, his genius probed the unknown--discovering at an ever-quickening pace the new . . . the wondrous. ln our time, his achieve- ments appear daily . . . the magnitude of science touches the heights of imagination. This World's Fair seeks not to recount accomplishments but rather to search out promises of the new age . . . the years ahead . . . the miles above. This yearbook, however, seeks to recount the living pre- sent, the accomplishments of the students of Yelm High School during 1961-62 school year, which will open the door to that fabulous world of tomorrow. me 7 my - ,nf .M i 1 5. kr 'L :T-D5 f it VS? ,S X Za K, gi A 6 ff? is fi iii as s .X , gs .NND . f'5-fig. fl V 'i 5, as X -U5 goes fag' ggi? wrapx:-em .Wlsar vi v fm -XLS -vf Ai Qfrgl ' Y :H 1 521-f wi W wa ,L as Q y, Q is ,rg g.-fi, ,yi l X 1 N VK U 1 ,Apr AR lwxgvfg ,Q 55, gg , J, QQ V ef, an wa ,e'S35W . His official day may begin at 8 a.m. with a teachers' meet- ing and end with a school dance at 11:30 p.m. This day could involve counseling students, working with the student body of- ficers and council, scheduling classes and activities, attending the games, and handling the numerous details that may arise each day. This has been Mr. Olson's daily routine since he joined the Yelm Staff as principal four years ago, when the class of 1962 was Freshmen. For his untiring efforts, understanding, and guidance, the Class of 1962 dedicates this yearbook to Mr. Robert Olson with deep gratitude and sincere appreciation. 3 LT-rfb ,,,,.,.-f--M -ww'-M-:iT mN 'W7 'W-0-W -- M . ,A...W-- ,, ,.-,.m....,..,M-,. ...,4 ,,,1,mWwN V ..J,.....-1 V Y ' ,.fg..4ll h , 1 E f mi A gi 'f' ' 5 1 f, gg5g1..,. 5 f f , A . Our educa- tional rocket was launched in September 1958. Guiding our ship into the future that year were President Ron Lawton, Vice Pres- ident Tena Schroder, Secretary Mitzi Phil- lips, and Sergeant at Arms Richard Coulter. The theme of our first class dance was It's All in the Game. We remember as high points that year our Freshman Initiation and those gruesome semester tests. The first stage of our rocket was dropped and we went on with the greater power from our second stage. Our chief astronaut was again Ron Lawton, with Tena Schroder, vice president, Lois Montgomery, secre- tary, and Dan Rutledge, sergeant at arms. Our class dance theme was Puppy Love. Six members of our class were initiated into the National Honor Society. There were: Lois Montgomery, George Carle, Chris Scott, Barry Warwick, Brent Warwick, and Suzanne Wilcox. With our second stage now behind us, we Wafwuiclef again to pilot us Ron Lawton, with Dale Norman, vice president, Lois Montgomery again handling the flight records, and Steve Welch keeping order on our ship. Our Ju- nior Prom was entitled Loveliest Night of the year and had outstanding decorations. Many honors were bestowed on our class this year. Brent and Barry Warwick won an ex- pense paid two-week trip to Waterloo, Iowa, as members of the Future Farmers of America State Dairy Cattle Judging Team. Brent was also elected to the District Presi- dency of the Future Farmers of America. Lois Montgomery was elected Girls League Girl of the Year, and Jerry Suzawith re- ceived the Boys Club award. George Carle and Karen Lynne honored our class when they received the coveted Best Citizens awards. George Carle and Bill Simons were our representative to Boys' State and Tena Schroder and Suzanne Wilcox represented our school at the Waskowitz Leadership Conference. o o BEST SENSE OF HUMOR: Anneke MOST COURTEOUS: Ron Lawton, MOST TALENTED: Tena Schroder, Gerlmgs Mike Edwards. Karen Lynne. Brent Warwick. Contributed Most to the School: Lois Montgom- ery, Steve Welch. Best Personality: Loma Raab, Jerry Suzawith. And now we are in the last stage of our rocket ship about to land from our long joumey. At the controls again is Ron Law- ton. Assisting him is Brent Warwick, and keeping the flight records for the third year is Lois Montgomery. Dale Norman and Dale Armstrong are maintaining order on our ship this year. Our Senior Ball was Winter Wonderland. Honors received by members of our class were: Lois Montgomery, the Daughter of American Revolution Award, Linda Reichel, the Betty Crocker Home- making Award, and Betty Nelson, the State Vice Presidency for the Future Homemakers of America. Barry Warwick was also elected District Vice President of the Future Most Athletic: George Stark, Dirinda Erde Farm ers of Am erica. On May 25, 1962, our rocket ship landed, and we received diplomas for a successful trip. Eleven graduated with honors: George Carle, Karen Lynne, Roger Matthews, Lois Montgomery, Betty Nelson, Teddi Otto, Tena Schroder, Chris Scott, Barry Warwick, Brent Warwick, Suzanne Wilcox. This four year trip into our local atmos- phere has broadened our knowledge exten- sively, but the learning which lies ahead of us is as infinite as the universe. Our motto is The world is full of wonders just waiting for our minds to improve, so it is up to each of us to launch our own missle for the future and aim for our star of success. 13 A Typical Class Meeting Qemiofv Glass O ' FRONT ROW: Brent Warwick, Vice President, Lois Montgomery, Secretary-Treasury, Ron Lawton, President.
