cdldfby Along with fifty-three excited and anxious Freshmen, I remember that sunny day in 1954 when I first entered Yelm Highschool to begin another phase of education. To lead us through our first year, we chose Gary Beggs, President, Dave Wolf, Secretary, Al Schorno, Vice President, Ron Gallup, Sergeant-at-arms. l'll never forget UTornado Week and initiation which resulted in fun and excitement for everyone. We sponsored Autumn Serenade as our first dance. Beginning our Sophomore year with thirty-nine, I felt more mature and ready for another big year. Dancing Under The Stars was the theme for our Sophomore Hop. We also sponsored the Julius Ceasar movie to raise money. Class officers were Ron Gallup, President, Barrie Wilcox, Vice President, Hap Pollard, Secretary. Dave Wolf and Connie Raab received the Best Citizenship Awards bringing distinction to our class. Time flew by and soon I was a Junior and considered an upperclassman. The selected officers were Dave Wolf, President, Jim Pierson, Vice President, June Kaufman, Secretary, Guy Sherman, Sergeant- at-arms. Our Junior Prom, White Christmas and class play t'Beauty and the Beef were successful events of the year. Again the Best Citizenship Awards went to members of our class, Dave Wolf and Donna Schneider. Highlighting the Senior year was the Senior Ball and Homecoming Dance combined, 'tChristmas Fanta- sy . Karen Hull and Dave Wolf reigned for the occasion with Connie Raab, Al Heath, Lynda Averill, Dic Parker, Linda Turner and Barrie Wilcox as attendants. The class play, 'tDrums of Death , held intrigue and mystery for the sixteen actors and actresses as well as the audience. l'll always remember the many honors won by the Senior class and the student body during 1957-58. As a class we won the world cloth- ing drive in class competition. Connie Raab won the county D.A. R. Award for Yelm. Donna Schneider and Connie Raab represented Yelm at the All-State Music Festival in Yakima. F.F.A. honors were re- ceived by Greg McKown when he was elected president of the Yelm Chapter and president of the Parlia- mentary Procedure Team which placed honors in sub-sub-district, sub-district, and district debate tourn- aments. He also received the State Farmer degree and was chosen Star Farmer by the Yelm F.F.A. Chapter. Linda Turner, Karen Hull, Vonda Florek, and June Kaufman were active in Journalism work and attended the Pacific Slope Press Conferences in Seattle. Never was there so much excitement at Yelm as when our basketball team won co-championship of the West Centeral League, first place in district and first place in the Washington State UB Tournament at Spokane. Dave Wolf was selected on the all-state basketball team and Al Heath received Honorable Men- tion. Senior playing their last game were Mike Gould, Garry Beggs, Dave Wolf, Barrie Wilcox, and Al Heath. Ten Seniors made honor roll ratings and were inducted into Honor Society. They were Gary Beggs, Karen Hull, Ray Jones, June Kaufman, Connie Raab, Donna Schneider, Linda Turner, Dave Wolf, Margaret Wright and Marilyn Wright. Leaders for the year were Donna Schneider, President, Guy Sherman, Vice President, Karen Hull, Secretary, Dic Parker, Sergeant-at-arms. Karen Hull edited the Tornado News and Carol Potts and Connie Raab were annual editors. Dave Wolf, Gary Beggs, Marilyn Wright, Margaret Wright, Karen Hull, June Kaufman, Lynda Averill attended Yelm schools for twelve years. On May 29th after four memory filled years of hard work, numerous activities, and lasting friendships, forty-two seniors received diplomas. The future looked bright and I was proud to say, l'm a graduate of Yelm High school, class of 1958. 9
