Idylls of The King -TENNYSON Congratulations to thc Senior Class and the Staff of the Mingo Chito of 1954! The splendid annual you have published this year would be a credit to any Class. This is one of many occasions during your school career when you have given your best to your School and brought honor to your class and student body. May you continue to live by the philosophy that anything worth doing at all is worth doing right! You will live your lives in a dangerous adventurous period of World history. Your courage, faith and loyalty to the principles of Christian culture will be constantly Challenged. May the America your generation preserves and passes on to the future recognize the freedom of the individual and the dignity of the human soul. Sir Galahad emerged as the most honored Knight of the Round Table. His strength was as the strength of ten because his heart was pure. May you be a Knight of the Prince of Peace! Last year the band won first division ratings in concert, sight-reading, and marching. During the football season many fine performances were given for the benefit of the fans, which all enjoyed. The band made all out-of-town football trips. The annual Christmas concert and spring concert was attended by a large and enthusiastic audience which appreciated the combined efforts of these students. The band this year is playing more difficult music than ever before and we believe that it is one of thebest bands in the history of Yazoo City High School. - Z Zami X 77ia7afzette4 .loyce Walne Wilma Blakemore Dee Phillips Sandra Seward qherry Terrell and Betty Carol Farlsh 77ZczedQlee 65445 we 53, A , 2? 9, 80 I 1 First row Wliss Nlaxmell ,Iowce We-tbrook NI Shannon, D Cooper, ,I Roberts, NI Dunn, NI Bennett, NI Ingram, D Nioodw C Cline NI Rogers, L Wrlkinson, S Grayson, F Harthcock Qecond row K -Xrrmgton Nl Rus-ell, T Downey, W Harrison R Mansfield, H Johnson, ,I Powell, P. For the second successive year the Redskins have compiled a brilliant, well re- spected record. The Chiefs of Coaches Doug llamley. llarold Kelly. and Mathew Bankston closed the gridiron year with a 10-l record. ln the process they captured the District 6 title and were runners-up in the Delta Valley Conference behind the Drew Eagles. ln compiling this great record the Red and Black defeated teams from Batesville. lndianola. Belzoni, Cleveland. Crystal Springs. Vicksburg. liosviusko. Charleston. Grenada, and Canton in that order. The lone defeat came by a let-l3 score at the hands of the Drew Eagles, champions of the D.V.C. A touchdown pass in the closing seconds, which would have meant victory for the lndians. was nullified because of an offside penalty. The all important victory for the Tribesmen came against their arch rivals. the Canton Panthers. on Thanksgiving day. With the victory came the District 6 crown. Both offensive and defensive power again proved the important factor in the suc- cessful season. The lndians placed Sonney Bonney. Hans Johnson, Joe Collins. and ,lon Reeves on the All-DVC team. Bubber Trammell garnered a position on the second team. and Marion Kerr. James Roberts. Thomas Stricldin. and Sanders Powell were given honorable mention. The '53 roster was made up of 34 players: 12 seniors. l-1 juniors. 3 sophomores. and 5 freshmen. Graduating lettermen are: Weber. Reey es. Roberts, Stricklin. Bonney. Kennedy. Morgan. Johnson. Hancock.
