BAD The band was organized in the summer: before school it played at the Iola fair and gave several concerts down town. Eugene McCormick served as president for the year with Bob Pingrey as vice president, Frances Shaefer as secretary. and Beverly West as librarian. The first few weeks of school were spent mainly in learning marches for the football games. The band marched at all home games. putting on a special per- formance for the Coronation Ceremony for Homecoming. As was the case with all organizations. the band did its share in helping with the war effort. On a Saturday afternoon and evening during the first six weeks concerts were given as part of a drive to sell bonds and stamps. On January 28 a victory concert was given. sponsored by the band mothers' club. The admission charge was the purchase of a war bond or stamp which the purchaser retained. The concert was a success both musically and financially, the total amount invested in stamps and bonds being 33709.15
