FALL 1952 -the presidential cam- paign swung into its final stages, Great Britain's second Elizabethan age was getting under Way, the Communists built a permanent conference building for Korean truce talks at Panmunjon, the Yankees took the World series, and 220 students gathered on the campus of Yankton College for the opening of its seventy-first year. We began the year by entertaining the freshman class with Stunt Night, Whip- ping School of Mines 32-0, and exact- ing a Week of initiation from the fresh- men. As we settled down for a long winter's classes, Kangaroo Kourt Judge Filthy Bill Adney ordered the fresh- men to begin growing beards, and We all started making plans, for Pioneer Day was just around the corner. Eddie Koenig was sentenced by the Kangaroo Kourt to paint the goal posts for the opening of the football season. Q a ' FANS, pdaneez Something new has been added -one of the highlights of the 1952 homecoming celebration was an open-air pageant depicting the growth of the Dakotas, in place of the traditional Pioneer Day concert. Opening with the pag- eant and the burning of the Y on Observatory hill, the festivities this year, managed by Dick Tschetter, were unusually en- joyable for everyone 3 the Warm Weather, the 46-6 football victory, and the fine parade, banquet, and dance all contributed to a wonder- ful day. The Bearded Freshman-Pat Brooks displays his prize-winning growth. Greyhound fans -the prize-winning Freshman class Hoat.
