His father, Robert Francis Copeland, was born in 1869 in New York City, and has lived in New Jersey and in New England, being now located in New Haven, where he is in the grocery business. His mother, whose name was Ellen E. Waterbury, lived in Stamford, Conn. Russell has one sister. Copeland prepared at the Booth Preparatory School, and has been on the football squad.
