The information unearthed by the Survey on the reading habits of today's Yale undergraduate were scarcely shocking, although the high degree of local pride evinced in the newspaper field might surprise some when com- pared with the predominantly metro- politan tendencies in magazine read- ing. Ninety percent read a newspaper Halmost every day , and most read either the New York Times H1295 or hlerala' Tribune HOZQQ. This is hardly surprising due to the Eastern background of most undergraduates, the extensive advertising campaigns made on campus for both newspapers, and the door-door delivery system which is offered by both. Trailing the two leaders by a comfortable margin are the N. Y. Daily Nefws, drawing a little more than ZZ, the Chicago Tri- bune with a tight little colony of lkfk, the .Nefw York Daily lllirror with about the same number of regular readers, as has Mr. Field's strident P.M. The American Eagle of the Hearst Press emerged from this sur- vey with fairly bedraggled plumage, eliciting only a minuscule M of lip. Other home town newspapers, how- ever, were read steadily by ISZ, this number presumably including men who read the New Haven press. lX4agazine readers pumped enthusi- astically for the Luce products as fav- orite magazinesn, both having twice as many readers as their nearest competi- tor, the New Yorker.
