Mrs. Brown Retires from Directing The students and faculty of Yale High School are proud and honored to dedicate the 1968 year- book to Mrs. Brown who has taught the last fifteen years of her thirty years teaching career in Yale. She had been successful and well liked as a teacher as well as a per- son. She received her B.A. degree in 1926 from Adrian College, then did post graduate work at Central Michigan University, Eastern Mich- igan University and the University of Michigan. So, as with her classes she shows through her life and work that we must never stop learning. She has taught English nine and ten, Remedial reading, and French. For many students she cast a light on their seemingly dark future through her constant encourage- ment and influence. She preferred honesty and de- termination more in a person than any other quality. Students looked upon her as a wise woman in many senses of the word. One student was overheard in the hall saying, “I like her, she gave me a lot of breaks.” She gave students the chance to make somethingof them- selves by “letting” them, not “mak- ing” them. We are happy that she can retire to enjoy her husband and the farm, but we hope she comes back to visit YHS once in a while because we will miss her. 4

Creating a New Setting JT 7 • ' X A new theater offers exciting prospects. While the cast is rehearsing in the old school, the builders and carpenters are busy creating the set-new large classrooms, adequate light- ing, new properties. So after a year of practice we moved in- to a theater which was not quite finished. The stage mana- gers, the master of properties, the coaches all have last minute details to check. A trial run, much like taking a play out of town to iron out the bugs before the Broadway opening, takes place. So you can see the contrast-the old, the new; the building, piles of boards, wheelbarrows, empty halls; then Our New Theater Charlie raises the flag, like the curtain rising, and the show goes on. Whether or not the play is a hit depends on the co- operation of the entire ; the producers, the directors, the stars, the cast, the crew and the patrons. And we think that YALE HIGH SCHOOL is a HIT!
