THE NATURE OF LEARNING 8 THE NATURE OF THE GAME 9 DEDICATION It seems as though it were only a few short years ago when we used to look forward to a bedtime story and a chance to lick the cake bowl. But the years flew by and new things filled our desires . . . clothes, the use of the family car, dates, and money. Yes, and you, Mom and Dad, were the ones who always shared these little things with us. You laughed when we laughed; cried when we cried. You knew and understood that all these things were just a part of our growing stage. And so, Mom and Dad, we offer this dedication to you to express our appreciation for all the loving mem- ories of your trust, confidence, wisdom, understanding, friendship, and love you have given us through these years. 10 1967 BULLDOG STAFF The making of the 1967 Yearbook proved to be hard, but it also proved to be rewarding. The memories of the past school year will always be regarded in this book; it will help everyone keep in touch with their high school days. We, the Bulldog Staff, present this book to you, with the hope that you will regard it as the best ever published. JAY E. ELDRED Probably the outstanding event of the 1966-67 school year has been the construction and occupancy of the New High School, In its dedication to the students of the Yale Public Schools, we hope that it may provide the educational opportunities so important to their future. The taxpayers of the district, the Board of Education, and the Administration, hope that it will provide our students with a new pride in educational endeavors and an appreciation for their facilities. To the Seniors, I extend congratulations and best wishes. WORKS HARD . SR. HIGH PRINCIPAL MR. JAMES MARTIN The man who strives to educate himself - and no one else can educate him - must win a certain victory over his own nature. He must learn to smile at his idols, analyze his every prejudice, scrap, if necessary, his fondest and most consoling belief, question his presuppositions, and take his chances with the truth. The Jr. High, this year, has worked hard to overcome the handi- caps of half-day sessions. As Jr. High Principal, I would like to commend these students for the accomplish- ments made under such adverse condi- tions. JR. HIGH PRINCIPAL, MR. TED STINE . RUNNING Y.H.S. MUSIC - MUSIC . . . Though we are a small group, the band has been quite active. We attended both the Sanilac County Festival and the St. Clair County Festival. We marched at all the home football games, participated in pep assemblies, and the Christmas assembly. On March 21, we sponsored the Highland Park Choir and on April 21, we were privi- leged to host the Clawson High School Band. As usual, we staged our Christmas and Spring Festivals, each of which was a suc- cess. Mr. Mitchell as he conducts the band. 74 The Senior band was very happy to take part in the school Christmas assembly. . . . EVERYWHERE We sold candy and put the profit into our band fund. This money was used toward the purchase of new instruments, sending our drum major and majorettes to Smith Waldridge Camp, and sending a delegate to summer band camp. The delegate this year was Sally Wilson. The Senior members and representatives from each class have worked together to establish a constitution, which includes band procedures and regu- lations for the members to follow in future years. In this way, the band members are given the opportunity to express their ideas on how they feel each of them can get the most education out of band. This has been a year of groping and prob- ing for the Student Council. We are just learning of the many ways in which we can be of service to the students and administra- tion. We have rewritten our Constitution with this new knowledge in mind, changed our election procedures and have written a student handbook. Most of the rules are stu- dent proposed and board approved. Our an- nual Homecoming Dance and parade was beautiful and successful. On the whole, this has been a growing year full of the joys and woes, smiles and tears associated with growing pains. But wait til next year! 78 ACTIVITIES Reaction - happy tears as Jan McGaw is named Homecoming Queen for 1966-67, The crowd cheers as Diane places the crown on Jan’s head. THE CORONATION Diane Burton, last year’s Home- coming Queen, fastens Jan’s robe as a voice booms out of the crowd, Hey Jan, how about a smile! The suspense is great, as can be seen in Peg’s anxious face, as the Yale Bulldogs down the Richmond ball carrier. Although we met defeat, the hard work of the players, Dave Sabada (pictured) and the encouragement of the cheerleaders helped to keep the spirits high. 84 AN EXCITING The Cheerleaders lead in the School Song at the Homecoming Pep Meeting. HOMECOMING GAME Be tough Bulldogs! We just couldn ' t run hard enough that night. 85 STEPPING OUT . . . 86 SENIORS SET THE PACE Aaron Slick from Punkin Crick” was the title of the Junior Play of 1966. It was successfully directed by Mr. Charles Neff. The main roles were played by Dennis Graves, Linda Dunsmore, Peggy Friend, and Garth Wilcox. The Seniors worked diligently this year to produce the well-known Broadway play, Annie Get Your Gun. This play was cleverly directed by Mr. Charles Neff. The main characters were Linda Camp- bell and Larry Seaton. . . FOR DRAMATICS Did they really come to see us? Who ' s tickling me? Would you believe????? Anyone for a hot- dog? Linda, first you have to load the gun - then pull the trigger. 89 THE END IS . . . The feelings are tense, but sincere as the 1967 Graduates take their places at Commencement. But as the Salutatorian and Class President Susan Winkler addresses her fellow classmates the tension is lifted; a heart warming feeling fills the gym as the Senior Class Advisor and friend Mr. Neff presents the Class of 1967. 90 . . . ONLY THE BEGINNING Valedictorian Ann Bartow expresses her wishes for a successful future, and the excit- ing moment comes when we all receive our diplomas.
