The team was outstanding for its fine record in ' wins and losses-that is for certain, but the team was even more successful for the standpoint of the fine spirit and desire which it displayed in every ball game, whether winning or losing. The team was composed of mostly seniors. They were indeed the leaders, each one doing his part to help the team on to victory. These boys will certainly be missed next year, but, they have left behind them the desire for success and the feeling that comes with playing top- notch football. This feeling has left its mark and will be shown by next year ' s leaders. 53 Varsity Basketball 29 vV I f 7 lg Jlf ' JJHJF Jf W •? 1 ’ KNEELING: Jim Gardella, Ken Studer, Ron Winkler, Chuck Palmateer, Gary Kettlewell, Bud Palmateer, Gary Winkler, STANDING: Dan Nooker, Deloy Hall, Mike Sampson, McCormick, Mike Termko, Gordie Graham, Jim Higgins. After several close defeats to the top teams in the league, early in the season, this quintet started to jell and from then on they were feared by every team in the league. The highlight of the season was their much cherished upset of the League leading Hornets of St. Stephens, 71-62. They stopped the Hornets after they had won 13 ball games . The Bulldogs also scored more points against them than any team during the season. Until this game, the Hornets had a defen- sive average of only 45 points per game. Other outstanding players during the season were Bud and Chuck Palmateer, Mike Tirmko, and Ron Winkler. Those graduating wish the future Bulldogs the best of luck in their 1961- T 62 season. The Council, this year, consists of Beth Chatterton, Carol Clarke, Judy Brown, Beverly Pearson, Dan Monahan, Ruth Brown, Jean Barr, Bonnie Doelle, Ron Apsey, Paul Williams, Janie Clarke, Barbara Bennett. Although the Community Band consists mostly of high school and junior high school band members it is open to and welcomes graduates and parents in the community. This group practices in the evening, once a week, from eight until nine thirty, and approximately every two weeks puts on a concert which is followed by an ice cream social sponsored by the Band Parents. F.F.A The boys pictured above have completed an active year of F.F.A. work. Their many activities included the Chicken Barbecue and Rodeo, leadership contests, Christmas tree sales and judging contests , such as land judging and livestock judging. The annual Chicken Barbecue and Rodeo, and the Christmas tree sales were our fund-raising projects. The Chicken Barbecue and Rodeo held on Labor Day required planning and work all during the summer. Some work is being done already for the next event. For the Christmas tree sales, the boys cut 400 trees and hauled them to Yale to be sold, Many of the boys came home with cold fingers and cold feet as a reward for selling trees. This year the boys had the old school bus up at the lot with a stove in it, to make the many hours of selling more comfortable. For two weeks, the boys gave up their study halls and many after school hours to sell the trees. The leadership contests are some of the most educational programs carried out by the F.F.A. There are Parliamentary Procedure, Farm Forum, Demonstration, and Public Speaking contests. Parliamentary Procedure is a contest for a team consisting of 5 to 7 members. They use the Roberts Rules of Order to take care of an item of business, within 8 to 10 minutes, that is given to them by the judges. This year the team consisted of Don Gardner (chairman), Bob Barr, Bruce Gardner, Dan Sopha, Mike Sopha, Jerry Tice, and Tom Tesluck. Farm Forum is a contest for a panel of 5 to 7 members to discuss an aspect of agriculture given to them by the judges, within 12 to 15 minutes. This year the team consisted of Keith Bricker (chairman), Ed Roberts, Gary Wendt, Howard Clark, and Larry Balia. Demonstration teams consist of 2 to 3 members who demonstrate to others how to do some farm opera- tion. They have the right to demonstrate what they would like. This year the demonstration team consisted of Anson Morgan and Bob Pung. Public Speaking calls for one person who will speak on a subject of his choosing for 10 to 15 minutes. Kurt McNabb is the public speaker for f 60- T 61. Land judging is the most popular of all contests of farming skills. Every spring the chapter conducts local elimination for district and state meets. Last year teams from Yale took part in statewide contests for Dairy judging in addition to land judging. Finally the local chapter operation is in the hands of officers and committee freely elected by the membership. Probably the greatest contribution to the individual is made through the leadership opportuni- ties offered to each member in his year as a student. F.F.A.
