FOREWORD I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. With this sentiment in mind, in this issue of the Lolomi has been employed the general theme of patriotism and preparedness. The section pages are sym- bolic of the times in which we are living. The pictures at the opening of each section are planned to give a view of Yakima High School students preparing themselves physically and mentally for the trying days ahead. Members of the staff of the 1942 Lolomi take this opportunity to thank Miss Collins and Miss Strase, the advisers of the business and editorial staffs, for their help and advice, Mr. Boswell and the members of the Photography club, Sheppard's Studio, Kennell-Ellis Studio, the Yakima Daily Republic and the Yakima Morning Herald for the many pictures which appear in this book. They are also grateful to the Western Engraving Company for its excellent en- gravings and to its representative, Mr. Albert Salisbury, for suggestions about layouts and designs, the Yakima Bindery 81 Printing Company, and to all others who had a part in the publication of the Lolomi.
