A History Yadkinoille High School The present Yadkinville School grew out of the Yadkin- ville Normal School, which was established in 1891 by Professor Zeno H. Dixon. The Normal School was erected on the site now occupied by the Yadkinville Community Building. In 1907, a new building was constructed on the site of the present school auditorium. The dates of Yadkinville School are 1917 until 1967, but the present High School has been in operation only since 1924. The principals until 1924 were Wade H. Britt 119171, Will E. Fleming 119181, Rossie Shore 119191, N.W. Gresham 119201, and C.N. Dobbins 11921-231. The actual Yadkinville High School, as we know it today, began operation in 1924, with Mr. A.H. Wolfe serving as the first principal. Other principals were: Mr. A.H. Dixon 11926-19271, Mr. R.H. Crater11928-19391, Mr. L.H. Koon11939-19421, Mr. D.D. Martin 11942- 19471, Mr. R.P. Buchanan 11947-19631, and Mr. E.B. Comer 11963- 19671. The most extensive building program associated with Yadkinville School took place in 1949, when the present high school section and gymnasium were built. A tem- porary lun ch room was built in 1948, and the new high school building was finished in 1950. Along with the new building, a gymnasium, scien ce and home economics laboratories, and a library were built. Many improvements were made in the landscaping, walks, driveways, and parking areas. Also, the playgrounds were reworked and the new activity field was constructed with space for football, baseball, softball, tennis, volley ball, and basketball. Much of the credit for these improvements is given to the FFA, under the direction of Mr. Herbert Cameron, and community-minded organizations. Since 1963, five classroom trailers and a band room were added. Mr. E.B. Comer has been principal since 1963. He will be remembered as the last principal of Yadkinville The first student body. 119231 In 1928 and 1929, the brick annex and the agricultural building were built. From 1929 to 1942, are the dates duringwhich the three-room classroom building was built. From 1942 to 1947, the old gymnasium was torn down and plans for a new high school and a new gymnasium were made. High School. Mr. Comer has prepared the school, its stu- dents, and its teachers for consolidation. Now, the year is 1967, the last few mont.hs of Yadkin- ville High School are dwindling. Now is the time to look backward as well as forward and to remember as well as dream.
