She had resigned as teacher in order to continue her training in library science at the University of North Carolina and later to serve as librarian of the Yadkin County Library. ln her years of loyal service, Miss Harding made a valuable contribution to the lives of her many pupils and to the teaching profession. She gave time and service beyond the call of duty. lt is with gratitude, appreciation, and love that the Senior Class of 1956 dedi- cates the YADKINIAN to .... Q. mv' uf' fx , wax T x vp-9 A 5 ' 7? Our universe is change and growth in school, our school life is what our classes and activities make it. In presenting a picture record ofschool life for the year 1955-1956, the Staff has designated the school as the sun, our guiding light. Re- volving around the sun, our classes, activities, games, parties, personalities -- all these make up our universe. In a changing world, may the memories, as held together by the 1956 Yadkinian, remain unaltered and reflect the happiness of high school years as the moon reflects the brilliance of the sun. - S eontento FACULTY ........... .................. .... 5 ADMINISTRATION .... 8 SENIORS ........... . . .. 9 Mascots ..... . . . 16 Officers ....... .... 1 7 Superlatives. . . . . . .18 History ...... .... 2 0 JUNIORS ....... .... 2 1 SOPHOMORES. ....... . . . 27 FRESHMEN ............. . . . 31 ELEMENTARY SCHOOL .... . . . 35 CLASSROOM SCENES ..... . . . 49 ACTIVITIES ................ ... 53 HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL .... . . . 68 ATHLETICS ............... . . . 71 Cheerleaders .... .... 7 2 I Football ....... .... 7 4 Homecoming. Daylight broke for ten students from Forbush and forty-five from Yadkinville as the Fresh- men-Class entered high school in September, 1952. Leading the Freshmen through the early morning mist, Miss Mary Harding and Mr. Bill Bridgewater were the homeroom teachers. Georgia Todd and Lorene Williams were homeroom presidents. U A period of adiustment, the freshman year ended with the usual parties and picnics. The two homerooms together went to Reynolds Park . . ' Morning time revealed fifty-three students in September, l953, making up the Sophomore Class, directed by Miss Beverly Moore and Mrs. R. P. Buchanan. Homeroom presidents were Gertrude Wall and Carl Shore. Roberta Smith won the title of Miss Yadkinville High for the year. A New Year's party and trips to Reynolds Park were the main events of the year. ln the afternoon of high school life, forty-six members of the Junior Class basked in the golden sunlight. Mr. Artus Moser and Mrs. Susan Steelman were sponsors for theclass that chose Georgia Todd as president. Homeroom presidents were Mary Lou Casstevens and Carl Carter. One of the main events for the year wasa memorable two-day trip beginning February 13 to Williamsburg, Virginia. Members of theclass were accompained by Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Buchanan. ' Carrying out the Moonlight and Roses theme, the Juniors honored the Seniors with the annual Junior-Senior Banquet April 22, 1955. Late afternoon found the class performing such tasks as electing the YADKINIAN Staff ordering class rings, and making the daisy chain. Junior marshals were Phillip Graham, chief, Mozelle Shelton, Georgia Todd, Anne Whitaker, Lorene Williams, and Mary Lou Casstevens. ,Twilight revealed forty-two students enrolled in the Senior Class, sponsored by Mrs. Carl Hoots and Mr. R. P. Buchanan. Phillip Graham was elected president of the class. Class rings were delivered the first week in October, Libby Carlton was elected Homecoming Queen by the football players, the students were entertained by the faculty at a Christmas party, a semiformal Leap Year dance was given. These were some of the highlights of the year. As the sun sank lower in the evening sky, many special events claimed the time and atten- tion of the Seniors: the Junior-Senior Banquet, the Washington trip, Senior play, class night, and finally, on May 28, graduation exercises for the thirty-nine members of the Class of l956.
