CLASS HISTORY DATES TO BE REMEMBERED SEPTEMBER, 1950. Seventy-two freshmen--fifteen of them from.Forbush--entered the ninth grade at Yadkinville. ln Mrs. Elva Hoots' homeroom section, officers were Frances Harding, president, Bettye Redding, secretary, Thurmond Phillips, treasurer, and Mattie Cranfill, reporter. Mr. Herbert Cameron's home- room officers were Keith Howell, president, Nellie Holcomb, secretary, Norma Todd, treasurer, and Velna Hall, reporter. The main event that year was a trip made to Chapel Hill by Miss Ethel Marie Hall's science classes to see the planetarium and other points of interest. SEPTEMBER, 1951. Taking part in more of the school's activities, the sophomores began to lose the greenness of freshman days. Officers in Miss Beverly Moore's section of the tenth grade were Marcus Hawks, president, Jimmy Martin, vice president, Jimmy Vestal, secretary, Robert Williams, treasurer, Barbara Howell, reporter. ln Mrs. Mary Louise Buchanan's section, Reta Peoples was president, Thurmond Phillips, vice president, Ouida Brown, secretary, Norma Todd, treasurer, and L. L. Mason, reporter. SEPTEMBER, 1952. The class emerged as iolly iuniors under the sponsorship of Mrs. Susan Steelman and Mrs. Elva Hoots. ln connection with their study of United States History, the class, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bridgewater, made a trip to Williamsburg, Virginia. Later in the year, the history teachers, Mr. Max Welborn, Mr. Bill Bridgewater, and Mr. Bill Cheek, a practice teacher, took the history classes to Salisbury to see President Dwight D.Eisenhower who spoke at Rowan County's Centennial Celebration. MARCH 27, 1953. The iuniors entertained the seniors at the annual Junior-Senior Banquet which was held in the gymnasium. A Dutch theme was carried out in the decorations. Other events were the ordering of the class rings, election of the annual staff, and making the daisy chain for the seniors' class night. SEPTEMBER, 1953. Fifty-two members of the class began their senior year with Mrs. Logene Hood and Mr. James Everidge as sponsors. Class officers were Johnny Reece, president, Robert Williams, vice president, Gerry Hutchins, sec- retary, Thurmond Phillips, treasurer, and Ouida Brown, reporter. OCTOBER 20, 1953. Two seniors, JoAnne Hutchens and Alma Slater, passed away as a result of iniuries received in an automobile accident October 16. MAY 2-7, 1954. Carrying out their plans made many weeks in advance, the Seniors made their trip to Washington, D. C. Other spring activities which kept them busy were the Junior-Senior Banquet, the senior play, and class night. MAY 29, 1954. Graduation exercises were held for the forty-eight members of the Class of 1954. --r-1- S .-
