We leave to them our deepest love and gratitude and hope that they may always say that their sacrifices were not all in vain. The pathway to greatness has guide posts that give direction to all who would travel that way. Some admonitions are: Be glad of life for it gives the opportunity to love, to work, to play, and to look up at the stars. Be satisfied with your earned possessions, but not content with yourself until you have made the best of them. Despise nothing inthe world except falsehood and meanness, and fear nothing in the world except cowardice. Be governed by your admirations, never by your disgusts. Covet nothing that is your neighbors except his kindness of heart and his gentleness of manner. Think seldom of your enemies, for hate destroys, sometimes the hated but more often the hater. Cultivate true friends hi p, for to have a friend is one of the greatest gifts, and to be a friend is to ex- perience the solemn and tender education, not only of the mind, but of the heart and soul. These are a few of the guide posts on the footpath to greatness. WZWWL Page 5 FACULTY WWW fi 35 Yam B. T. McCALLUM MRS. W. F. MCCALLUM Principal r' A-I A 4 qv- J Sf' js. 3 -Y 5 rum V. I I CLASS HISTORY HISTORY OF THE CLASS OF 1958 We the seniors of the graduating class of 58, look back over our four years in high school. It started in the year 54-55, when we entered high school as Freshmen, with Mr. R. L. Durrah as our adviser. There were thirty in our class. As the months passed our class grew smaller. During the year we were able to participate in many activities. The most exciting was competingfor ourfirst timein the school's Annual Popularity Contest. We ranked second place with S387.00. Our advisers were Miss Kimber and Mrs. Camp. Thomasene Dobson was our class contestant. Also during this year Nell Glenn and Martha Porter represented us in the May Court. By the time we had become Sophomores in the year 55-56, our adviser was still Mr. R. L. Durrah. We now felt that we were really an integral part of our school. Our class continued to decrease, but we kept the faith and looked toward our goal. During this year in the Popularity Contest, again we ranked second place, with S376.00. Our advisers were Miss Kimber and Miss Vance. Our contestant was Martha Porter. As the year rolled on Mr. Durrah our Science and Mathematics instructor left us and went to a distant place, and there was much sorrow among the class. Mr. C. O. Matthews came as the Science and Mathematics instructor. We welcomed him into our school family. During this year Kay Wilborn and Thomasene Dobson represented us in the May Court. Now the T956-57, school term came to pass and success looked fair. Our class had dropped down to I7 members. In the Popularity Contest again we held second place with S355.00. Our advisers were Miss Kimber and Miss Blackburn, and our contestant was Rosie Lee Williams. We sponsored our Junior-Senior Prom, in the month of April on the twenty- sixth night. We enjoyed a wonderful prom, one we will long remember. We were represented in the May Court this year by Jessie Sales and Dollie King. Thomasene Dobson and Martha Porter were our class representatives in the May Dances. Before we knew it, we were Seniors, the fourth year in the history of this great class of 58. We never realized our school year could pass so fast. Our class, now numbered I5 members. But those who strayed toward different goals will regret it. During this year the receiving of our rings, invitations, and caps and gowns, was a new and glorious adventure. Now fora few highlights of the Senior Class: During this year of 57-58, we again won second place in the Annual Popularity Contest, raising S370.00. Our ad- visers were Mrs. Anthony and Miss Kimber, our contestant was Beatrice Scales. We sponsored a successful program for the first P.T.A. meeting of the year. Some of the Seniors attended the Annual Senior High School Day, at A. 8. T. College in Greensboro, N. C. Our principal, Mr. McCallum, our adviser, Mrs. McCallum, and Miss Blackburn accompanied us. We really enioyed a won- derful day. As we approach the end here at Yadkin High, we shall always remember the happiness as well as the mishaps. We would like to give special thanks to our parents for the faith they have shown in us by standing by us at all times. With- out their encouragement, we would have failed. We wish to thank the faculty for their understanding and patience, in working with us through our trials and tribula- tions, for without them we could not have reached our goal. THE SENIOR CLASS OF 1958 Barbara .lean Brown Historian Page II Page I2 CLASS PROPHECY December 20, 1967 Dear Barbara, As I sit watching my typing class at Yadkin High School, my mind begins to wander. I was thinking of the different places our classmates are now. Ihappened to hear that HERMAN STIMPSON, DAVID WILLIAMS, and surprisingly to say WILLIAM GRINTON, are Pilots in the Air Force. LOLA GRAY COWAN is teaching in Goldsboro. Nice place isn't it especially , for Lola. ROSIE WILLIAMS has a beauty shop in Greensboro, N. C. HALLIE PORTER was married in October, and guess what, she is actually teaching music! lsawJESSIE SALES not long ago and she told me that her beauty saloon was in Jonesville, N. C. She finally tricked Buddy into marrying her. ARC HIE DOBSON and HOMER COOPER have a barber shop in Barney Hill. SHERMAN is still at A. 8- T. studying electrical engineering. BEATRICE was married right after school closed. She is now living with her dream come true. She took a nine months course in Ideal Home Planning at Pratt Institute in New York. She seems to be making good use of her course. I saw BARBARA RUSSELL and was very happy to hear that she was the new Home Economist in Wilkesboro, N. C. A car is required for her work and you should see that 1963 Chevrolet she is driving. DOLLIE KING is Secretary to the President of Livingstone College, in Salisbury, N. C. Well, Barbara, Ihope you have enioyed my letter with the gossip about our classmates. They have truly come up and made something of themselves, I would never have thought that our class had the talent that it did. I guess I had better close since the gossip has run out. Yours truly, Tonk Thomasene Dobson , C lass Prophetess P . S. Iam very glad that you like your new iob as Director ofthe School of Nursing at A. 8- T. College . Good luck to you. RUTH THOMASENE DOBSON Page 18 CLASS MOTTO We The Links Of Today, Will Join The Chains Of Success Tomorrow CLASS COLORS Black and Pink CLASS POEM THE DOOR OF YADKIN HIGH When we rapped on The Door of Yadkin High We were welcomed with a smile, 4 We were told an Education was in store for us 1 To come in and stay for a while. We strived and struggled for four long years, And the Door lock was very very stout, But we turned the key very hard you see And now we are marching out. Sixteen units we have completed With a lot of electives too, But we'll need them all in this strange new life That we are now entering into. The Doorway to success is usually hard, But it depends on the way you try, If you fool around and play all along Success will pass you by. We've accomplished a lot in our study here That will be useful in the years to come, But we tried very hard in this battle we've fought And the victory has now been won. The teachers here have all been nice So why should we have asked for more, They rendered all the help they could To help us through Yadkin High's Door. Dear Yadkin you are the very best, You've proven that in the past, We chose you out from all the rest And our love for you will always last. There're a lot of students to come to you, Teach to them what you require, But this remember in the years to come The class of '58 will be near by. g The Door to Yadkin High stands open now As we are marching through, But to the students left behind There's a task for you to do. So we'll close the Door again, as it closed on us A year ago this day, But an Education is behind that Door So as Graduates we'll march away.
