Senior Honor Club' is the name given the organization of those Seniors eligible to take the Senior Scholarship Test. To be eligible a Senior must have a B average in all courses taken in high school. From this group the faculty chooses the members of the National Honor Society. This year there were twenty-six members in Senior Honor Club. Meetings were held once a week during November, December, and Ianuary. At each meeting a different teacher gave a review on his or her particular phase of knowledge. The test was given on January 19, 1957. ehaaq The Library League has been reorganized this year. Carolyn Allen The Class of '57 presented its Junior Class Play, Quiet Summer on May 10, 1956. Arollicking three -act comedy, this delightful play is centered around the life ofJames Clark, a middle-aged lawyer who has hopes of spend- ing a summer of peace and serenity, concentrating on being elected country club president. But, these plans go astray when his niece and nephew arrive from New York. The success of the play can be contributed to the efforts of Miss Olive H. Huston, director of the play, and to the hard work of the cast and stagehands. bfi -P For ourSen.ior Class Play, the Class of 1957 selected Onions in the Stew , an adaptation of the current best seller by Bet- ty MacDonald. The three-act comedy was directed by Miss Olive H. Hus- ton and presented on February 21, 1957 in the Jean B. Elwell Auditorium. The plot centers around the MacDonald family who moves to Vashon Island on Puget Sound. The complications of island life produce many amusing situations. This hilariously funny play was a wonderful success because of the combined efforts of the cast and its director. Z H1 Lifiki Betty MacDonald . Don MacDonald . . Anne MacDonald . Joan MacDonald . H 71 ' Two weeks previous to the traditional Homecom- ing, sponsored by the Boosters Club, five girls were nominated for Buc Queen by members of the upper four grades. The girls were Patty Masters, Pat Matson, Anne Steele, Diane Edinger, and Juanita Moore. L.. The name of the queen was whispered to Dave That night excitement ran high through the crowd as the five girls approached the stands in new con vertibles driven by members of the Custom-Auto Kings. As the girls took their places on the field, the band formed an X. Then came the long awaited mo ment. Bobbitt, Senior Clas President. Dave stepped for- ward and a momentary hush fell over the stadium, as he placed the crown on the head of the 1956 Home- coming Queen, Patty Masters. The brief silence was broken by the cheers from the crowd. Music was provided by The Down's Trio, the theme song, of course, Harvest Moon, During the course , of the evening, the President of Student Council, Mary Nelle Kelley, presented the Queen with a golden foot- ball to help her remember her reign, This is the first year that this has been done. O The Homecoming Dance, sponsored by the Booster's Club, washeld after the game in the girls' gym, The theme Harvest Moon was carried out in the autumn colors of yellow and brown. A large moon suspended high on the east wall trained its beams on the throne of the queen. The sight of every harvest moon is sure to bring back memories of all who were present at this un- forgettable night. The Grand March was led by the Queen, her court and their escorts, who were Senior members of the football team, Bill Hagler, Darrell Roberts, Orville Dawkins, and Taso Donthchos. IQS Finallythe night of great anticipation arrived. The banquet, held at Geyer's Restaurant, was a fine intro- duction for an outstanding night. Approximately 250 Juniors, Seniors, and guests danced to the music of Joe Acito and his orchestra under an elaborate ceiling fashioned of hundreds of pink and white crepe paper apple blosorns. 70: ffpable Zlodaom 7c2ne May 18, 1956--another never -to-be -forgotten date! For this was the evening of the Junior-Senior Prom and Banquet presented by our class of '57. During the months of preparation, an aura of my- stery fell over the industrious juniors as they endeavor- ed to keep their plans a secret from the inquisitive seniors. ASX! W R As the clock struck 9:00, couples began to arrive at the Field House, which was decorated to carry out the theme 'In Apple -Blosom Time'. Walls of stone, along with pink and white crepe paper streamers, served as a background for the gala occasion. Trees of white, encrusted with silver glitter hung heavy with pink apple blossoms and minature trees of the same delicate motiff served as center pieces for the tables. 70 'n X A wishing well at one end of the floor added the final touch for a lovely springtime setting. Much appreciated by thc class of '57 was the aid given by the Junior class advisers in making our prom and banquet the best ever!! If p ll At midnight the scene shifted to an after-prom par- ty, Club Rainbox-. ', which was held at Tecumseh Grade School. The party, arranged by parents of up- per-classmen and the P.T.S. of Central High School, was conducted in a night-club fashion. A huge twenty-five foot pink and blue umbrella suspended from the ceiling, hand-painted panels, vnought-iron fumiture , trellises and tiny, multicolor- ed trees completed the May day setting. The Sons of Song highlighted the entertainment, and rounding out the program were the Sentimenta- lists, aboy's quartet from Central, Mr. Walt Marshall was Master of Ceremonies. Dance music was furnish- ed by the Delta-Rythnm Band. It was, indeed, a night to be remembered I! ' f Q ' I .,- s- M. 4'- av - .
