DEDICATIO - To the citizens of Xenia---repre- sented here by the members of the Board of Education---to the men and Women of Xenia from all walks of life who through the past quarter- century, have helped to make Xenia Central High School the great edu- cational institution it is today,we of the staff of the 1955 Cen-Sen wish to dedicate this our annual. You have made wise choices in the selecting of the administrators and faculty for this institution---we be- lieve they are the finest to be found. Youth appreciates your efforts and guidance. We only hope that as a result of the education and direction you have given us, we too may be- come in the ensuing years intelligent, active, Working members of the com- munity, Xenia. It is written for, about, and by the students of Xenia Central and it is to the public that we present it. We have recorded here the events of the past year as we have watched them, lived them, and brought about their happenings. Because in future years our memories will be dulled, we have recorded these events pictorially and in writing. A We created the book and brought about its arrangement and to us it seems more then just a documentary record of a school year. It is progress. . .it is the growth of its creators. . .and it is a wonderful memory bound between these covers. The Student Council is made up of stu- dents who represent their homeroom, also presidents of the classes and clubs. The purpose of the Student Council is to pro- mote school spirit, develop student res- ponsibility, and help solve problems of the student body. The activities and purposes of all the clubs represented were explained at an assembly sponsored by the Student Council. They also organized a system of devotional assemblies, each class in charge of a par- ticular program at least once during the year. 16 I Q r it 35 E' a I 4 viii , av Y C ai? Ei ---weffie ' af7755wzeaaca it Every year the class elects the officers to serve them in conducting meetings and making plans for the year's activities. In the senior year the officers have the responsibilities of the Senior Class Play, Senior Day, and Commencement. The Junior officers had the Junior Class Play and the selection of the class rings to handle, along with the Junior-Senior banquet and prom, Although the sophomore year had no large events, every bit of leadership was required as it was our first year in which to work as a class, These are the capable and willing officers thatrepresented us during these years, Our Senior officers were John Moore, President, Phil Anderson, Treasurer, Soula Dontchos, Secretary, and Dave Hinshaw, Vice-President. As Juniors we elected Dick Jordan, Vice-President, Gerald Huth, Treasurerg Betty Glass, Secretaryg and John Moore, President, In our sophomore year the officers were DickJordan, Vice-President, Betty Glass, Treas- urer, Phil Anderson, Secretary, and John Moore, President, This year's Senior advisers, Mrs, Balmer and Mr, Neff, are certainly above and beyond all recognition, As advisers, they are the best, As friends, there were never any better. They have constantly strived throughout this year to make our class the most successful ever. To this annual they have dedicated infinite hours of work. Without them our class would not have been the success we hope it has been, To them we say thanks. 18 z'ameeZz'5eea0z ' PHILIP EDWARD ANDERSON June 23, 1937 Majors: English, Mathematics, Social Science. In order to take the Senior Scholar- ship test, a student must maintain a 3.0 average in all courses throughout his four yearsof high school. In Greene County one hundred and forty- seven seniors took the test at Central High School, and another group was tested at Fairborn. T hos e receiving ratings in the county were: Jane Finley, third place, with a score of 204, Ann Flora, fourth place, with a score of203g Gerald Huth, seventh place, with a score of 199. Receiving honorable mention were: Richard Jor- dang Charles Fisherg GailNicholg Richard MiddletongJoAnnRoseg Jeanne Ginaveng David Hinshaw, and Lanae Lewis, Jane Finley, Ann Flora, Gerald Huth, and Richard Jordan received honorable men- tion in the state. Twenty seniors w ere named to the National Honor Society. To receive the honor the seniors had to place in the upper twenty-five per centof their class and had to take the state senior scholar- ship tests in January. Selection is made by the faculty members on the basis of the pupil's contribution to the school during their four years in high school. Scholarship, character, leadership, and service are considered. On the morning of September 5, 1943, one hundred fifty anxious little boys and girls entered the first grade at their respective grade schools. These were trying times but full of enlightening experiences such as scraped knees, running noses, and especially the drudgery of memorizing those multiplication tables but we came through with flying colors. Finally, the big day came--Our first day at Xenia Central. What a thrill to have our own lockers, to change classes, and to be able to rub elbows with those big, dignified seniors. Our first real social event was Junior High Night. What a big affair! Imagine, having a date, seeing our boys playing basketball, and then going to a dance! fDoing the two-stepj Time marches on. We are freshmen now and our responsibil- ities are beginning to make themselves known. We chose our schedule and clubs, attended high school assemblies and dances and made new friends. ln our sophomore year we had the distinction of choosing our class officers. They were John Moore, president, Dick Jordan, vice-presidentg Phil Anderson, secretary, Betty Glass, treasurer. Our advisers were Miss Huston and Mr. Boxwell. We sponsored our first dance Cat Hat Capers which was a big success. We also sponsored a class picnic at Shawnee Park. ln 1953 our busiest year faced us. John Moore was re-elected president, Dick Jordan, vice-president, but Betty Glass gave her checkbook to Gerry Huth. She took over the pad and pencil as sec- retary. Our advisers were Miss Davis and Mr. Seilhamer. We sponsored the second dance of the year, Pigskin Prance, Our treasury filled, as receipts from the refreshment sales poured in. We took real pains in presenting our class play, Growing Pains. Our biggest headache was the prom and banquet. We displayed our originality by having A Night in Venice in the fieldhouse. Another new idea of our class was the all night party at the Y which featured the nationally known male quartet The Crewcuts. Seniors at last! What a year! Guess who we elected presi- dent. None other than John Harry Moore. The other officers were Dave Hinshaw, vice-president, Soula Dontchos, secretary, and Phil Flake Anderson, treasurer. Our advisers were Mrs. Balmer and Mr. Neff. We started the year witha wonderful spirit. For the first time aCentral football team received a state rating. Belles On Their Toes, our senior class play, highlighted six weeks of hard work by the whole class. The really big project of the year is our annual, the Cen-Sen, the biggest and best ever. Slowly and surely the day is coming when we shall leave this place of fond memories. 44 5 xl' lll zgvlfu in Ulu li HHN rimu I 2 elf in W.-Mm m 'lsav 1 I These are the officers that were elected to rep- resent the Sophomore Class. Since this is the first year for their class to electofficers and to have class meetings, their main taskdeals with organizing the class as a whole. This also requires much effort on the part of their adviser, Mr. Boxwel1.Their one main activity isto sponsor adance after a football game. They are Barry Buell, Vice-President, John Mc- Clain. Treasurer, Mr. Boxwell, Adviser, Sherman Stanley, President, and Brenda Brown, Secretary. ' and ' --- The Advisers ofthe Junior Class are Miss Davis and Mr. Seil- hammer. They are to be com- mended for their many efforts put forward to make the junior class year a successful one for all. Their greatest job is to advise in the setting up ofthe Junior-Senior Prom Qand in all financial matters.J These are the officers elected to represent the Junior Class, Since this is their second year as an organized class, they have many more activities than they had the year before. Their greatest and most 'looked-forward-to activity is the Junior-Senior Prom, of which they are the sponsor. The theme they chose for the Prom of 1955 is Car- rousel , Their other activities include sponsoring a dance, caring for the refreshments after football and basketball games, and their class picnic, The Junior Class play is also presented late in the spring, The officers are Joyce Wakely, Secretary, Ralph Durnbaugh, Presi- dent, Bob Reynolds, Vice-President, and John Curry, Treasurer.
