WARNER Superintendent of Xenia City Schools The editor and staff of the 1954 CEN-SEN and the entire Senior class respectfully dedicate this year- book to our superintendent, R. J. Warner in recog- nition of his service to the schools of Xenia. For the past eighteen years, Mr. Warner has ably served as director of all the affairs of the Xenia City schools. Because his offices are located in our build- ing, we students of Xenia Central are well acquainted with his friendliness and co-operation. He has achieved success who has lived well, laugh- ed often, and loved muchg who has gained the respect of intelligent men and the love of little children, who has filled his niche and accomplished his taskg who has left the world better than he found it, whether by an improvedpoppy, a perfect poem, or a rescued soulg who has never lacked appreciation of earth's beauty or failed to express itg who has always looked for the best in others, and given the best he had, whose life was an inspirationg whose memory a benediction. 6 ADMINISTRATION MR. During our freshman year we became acquainted with new teachers, a new curriculum, and new friends. When our sophomore year came, we organized our class and elected officers. We chose Neil Drummond, President, Dave Daw- son, Vice-Presidentg Dora Wilson, Secretary: Ed Kraft, Treasurer. Mrs. Hey and Mr. Boxwell were our advisors and aided us in spon- soring a dance. Our junior year was our busiest. That year we elected Jerry Galliger, President: Neil Drummond, Vice-President, Dora Wilson, Secretary: Phil Purdom, Treasurer. Our advisors were Miss Da- vis and Mr. Seilhamer. In that year we sponsored a dance. We also had charge of the refreshment stand at the football and bas- ketball games. Our class play, Silent Night, was directed by Mr. Sultzbach and given May l and 2. In that year we happily or- dered and received our class rings. In May we were hosts to the Seniors at the Junior-Senior banquet and formal, Stairway to the Stars. Finally we became Seniors. Our officers were Jerry Galliger, President, Dave Dawson, Vice-President: Dora Wilson, Secretary, Phil Purdom, Treasurer. Our advisors were Mrs. Balmer and Mr. Marshall. Under their able guidance, we edited the 1954 Cen- Sen. Other highlights of our last year were the ordering of class pictures and invitations. In November, again under the direction of Mr. Sultzbach, we presented State Fair. In May, 1954, we had our Baccalaureate and Commencement and entered the world with unforgettable memories of our school days at Central. 38 X WIN., Q an .red,4m591 t1!nif!i I A JUNIOR GIRLS First row: Camilla Dabe. This year forty-four boys made up the Buc squad, almost double the number of four years ago when Mr. Ankney started coaching. Sixteen seniors will graduate this year, but with new prospects coming up from the underclassmen the empty spots will easily be filled for the next season. Twojuniors, Marc McCallister and Bob Chapman, and one sophomore, Jim West, were honored this year on the All M, V. L, Team. Xenia. . . Xenia. . . Xenia. . . Xenia. . . Xenia. . . Xenia. . . . . In spite of winning ten games and losing eleven, the boys, coached by Mr. Kaylor, played some very respectable basketball. It seems that the Bucs just couldn't get the breaks to turn the season into a more successful one. After winning their first two tournament games, the Bucs were de- feated in a battle with Springfield Public. Five boys will leave the team by graduating this year.
