The marching band put on spectacular halftime shows at every home football game and four of the games away from home. The band also played for all of the home basketball games and marched in several parades. The concert band and orchestra appeared in a winter and a spring concert and participated in contests. The orchestra played for both of the class plays, speech night, Baccalaureate, and Commencement' The senior choir also appeared in the winter and spring concerts. This chorus, with the aid of a selected orchestra produced the operetta, SALLY. The freshman chorus worked hard preparing to join the senior choir next year. They also made a trip to Columbus to a choir clinic. The Centralites played for many of the dances after games and for hangout. Fifty Eight ' 4 1 5 ,eo . me -f N ak si V2 2 2 S? The ten year old, concrete, structure has eight boys' physical education classes daily in raddition to its use for basketball games. Minstrels, operettas, concerts, variety shows, tourna- ments, banquets, circuses, wrestling matches, political rallies, and other events too numerous .to mention have been scheduled in this building. The 1950 football season got under way with a new coach at the helm, Ben Ankney, former Miami Uni- versity freshman football coach. Thirty enthusiastic boys answered the call for candidates for football, but in spite of superb coaching, a rugged line, and a speedy ba zkfield, they finished with only a mediocre season. The award for the most valuable player went to SEa1Wart George Rue, who played his third years as a regular under the blue and white of Xenia Central. George was named to the all Miami Valley League first team, he was picked as one of the best tackles on the District team, and he WHS also PiaCed Oil the third String all State Team. A lack of height and experience seemed to be the chief reason the Bucs did not hold their place as Miami Valley League Champions this year. The boys under the Blue and White of Central have held this position for the past two years. In spite of their losses they gave the fans numerous thrills and plenty of excitement. The highlight of the season was when the team set a new scoring record against the Wilmington Hurricanes. The team made 73 points and this is the greatest score ever achieved by a high school team in the Xenia Field House. Nick Ungard, our 6 foot center, was the sparkplug of the Xenia quintet. Nick was not only the leading scorer in the league but he was named to the mythical Miami Valley League Team. Next year we are expecting to see great things from Our Bucs since there will be only two lettermen missing from the squad. RECORD i Xenia Opp- Washington C.
