17 ' Pfw --uve, as' acuity In order to realize the full value of Xavier's Faculty. we must first realize thc aims of education. Perhaps the hest summation of these goals is as follows: The simultaneous cultivation of body and soul. The ideal system of education demands a great deal of sacrifice from the teachers. since to accomplish this ideal their influence and guidance must he felt in as many instances as possihle. Education. contrary to some modern opinions. does not end in the classroom. Futhermore. it is not the impersonal process so often demonstrated in popu- lar education. It is now. as it always has been. the very personal relationship between student and teacher in which the student henefits from his masteris knowledge in its fullest sense. Quite obviously. this can not be accomplished effectively within a forty-five minute period. There is definitely. then. a require- ment in any successful system of educa- tion for a means hy which personal contact can he wholesomely attained. Xavier has solved this prohlem hy extra- curricular actixities in which student and teachers are lmrought together in an atmosphere less formal than that of the classroom. Wie. thc graduating: class. fecl that we have lmenefited not only from the formal curriculum. hut also. and especially. from the liroad hack- grroumls and experience of our teachers.
