The girls proved game after game that they possessed one of the most awesome defenses in the league, and under the watchful eye of Marge Kelly their offensive game became just as overwhelming. Defensively, the team was aided by Robin Potera, Diane Kinney, Kim Smith, Karen Natishan, Johnna Kulikowish, and Janine Luebs. Offensively, the team had power hitters Kim Smith and Robin Potera and reliable hitters Diane Kinney and Lori Jimmie to assure Valley West of a good standing in the league. Robin Potera was named to the All-Star team. Judy Con- nelly, a strong performer on the mound, received honorable mention. The team will miss the tal- ents of Carol Hagan and Robin Potera, both seniors. The squad, however, will have eight returning letterwinners and will certainly be a strong con- tender next year. . s 4--..,,,, 1-iii km,

Compared to the expected season schedule of I9 seven-inning games the girls spent I8 innings celebrating their successes. Of the seven games the squad lost, live were to teams who later advanced to the soft- ball playoffs, while the remaining two were squeakers. Perhaps the greatest obstacle our girls had to overcome this year was the chal- lenge of a harder and more competitive division. The '79 squad found themselves in the midst of such teams as Nanticoke, Wyoming Area, Coughlin, and Bishop O'Reilly.
